Doctor’s answers

Question
Answer Header & Date
Answer Snippet
Lift or No lift needed?
hard to say from the pictures
Oct 23, 2015
Are all these pictures you? They do not look like the same person! From the pictures, in my eyes, you look very borderline, meaning you may or may not need a lift. Sometimes an anatomical implant (teardrop) placed in a dual plane position without a lift can accomplish the look of a lift without a lift. I am not far from Baltimore and would be happy to see you in consultation.
Nerve damage after axillary breast augmentation?
mondor’s cord
Jul 9, 2015
What you have is probably a mondor’s cord. it is related to the lymphatic system around the breast. it is not common but can happen after any breast surgery, and it is a bit more prevalent when working around the axilla. (armpit). the numbness is the arm is unrelated and has to do with stretching of the nerves that extend from the chest to the arm. this will resolve with time, as will the mondor’s cords.
What Does a Good Draw Mean?
good draw
May 21, 2013
Good draw just means how much tissue is being pulled into the machine. the more tissue pulled into the cup, the more tissue is being frozen. many patients equate the amount of pain and numbness to the amount of change they are going to see, but this is not necessarily true.
Will I Need a Revision to Get my Belly Flat?
6 weeks may feel like a long time
May 21, 2013
But as far as the body and healing goes, it is very short. i tell patients that 6 months is a good time frame to see results, but that sometimes 1 yr is more appropriate. there can definitely be some asymmetries that you see in healing as far as swelling goes that will resolve with time.
Common for Breast Augmentation?
Swelling and tightness are normal at 1 week
May 18, 2013
Yes. Everything that you describe seems well within the limits of normal healing. Your armpits and even lymph nodes may swell. Everything will feel high and tight until the muscle swelling subsides in about 2-3 weeks.
Asymmetrical Hips After Lipo/TT?
How symmetric were you preop
May 18, 2013
It is hard to answer this question well without seeing your preop pictures. Often people have asymmetries that they are fully unaware of prior to me pointing them out. I make sure to point these things out to people before the operation. Yes, your post op pictures do look asymmetric but this may be due to swelling differences as well.
My Surgery is Tomorrow and Think I’m Going to Small?
silicone sizes need to be determined preop
Apr 16, 2013
There are a lot of different ways to prepare and plan for these surgeries. typically i order implants at least a week in advance and make plans with a patient for exactly which implants we’re using at that time. some offices and doctors are different but most i think do not carry a big range of implants on hand. now some facilities have what is called implant consignments, in which case different implants can be chosen on the fly. good luck
What Are the Effects of Coolsculpting on Lipomas (Hard Fat Tissue)?
doesn’t sound like a lipoma
Feb 18, 2013
You may have a cyst in the abdomen. lipomas are solid fatty tumors and can not “burst” or be “squeezed out.” lipomas can increase and decrease in size but this is typically relatively slow and not rapid. it is not clear what lipomas or cysts will do in the face of coolsculpting. it is probably not dangerous to do, but i would doubt that these would reduce in size with treatment.
Can I Get a Second Zeltiq Treatment After 5 Weeks?
ideal timing is still being worked out
Feb 18, 2013
The idea that all the dead fat cells have to clear before retreating i think is a myth. this may be somewhat true, but on the other hand, retreating means successive tissue injury. stacking treatments so that they are closer together (some people even do two treatments on the same day back to back) means cells have less time to recover from injury and theoretically could be decreased at a higher rate. ultimately the answer is that the jury is still out.
Would Naproxen Help with the Pain After Having Cool Sculpting?
naprosyn or motrin
Feb 18, 2013
Any nsaid, like motrin or naprosyn will typically work quite well for the cramping after coolsculpting. in cases of severe cramping we will prescribe more robust pain pills, but fortunately the need for these is rare.
CoolSculpting and VelaShape Instead of Tummytuck?
if you have had 3 children
Feb 18, 2013
In all likelihood, given your surgeons assessment, a tummy tuck is a better solution for you. with each pregnancy the muscles and skin of the abdomen get stretched out. even with a good recovery the tissue often has signs of permanent damage such as stretch marks. non invasive treatments can help in these cases but not nearly as much as a tummy tuck.
What if my Fat Did Not Crystallize?
stick of butter is a good indicator but not everything
Feb 18, 2013
Your tissue has clearly responded well to the treatment. there could be technical reasons why you did not see as as profound of a “stick of butter” at the end of the treatment, such as a less than ideal draw. however, it is possible that your abdomen is changing with the treatments and there is less tissue to actually draw in. i would be patient and wait to see your effects prior to making any early judgements.
Effective to Re-treat Area with Coolsculpting After 7 Weeks Rather Than 8?
i don’t think there is much of a difference
Feb 18, 2013
The difference between 7 and 8 weeks is not really much. Also, there are some who believe treating the area with multiple treatments in quick succession in more advantageous. ultimately the jury is still out. retreat at 4 weeks, 6 wks or 8 wks. the truth is, most patients will benefit from more than one treatment.
What Are the Benefits of Coolsculpting Re-treatment at the 4-6 Week Mark?
optimal timing is still being worked on
Feb 18, 2013
Your question is a good one. the idea is ultimately to improve the long term result rather than the actual speed of treatment effect. retreating at the 4-6 week mark can lead to an additive effect of positive tissue injury. most patients do benefit from more than one treatment.
Signs of Good Results With Coolsculpting?
stick of butter is a good sign
Feb 18, 2013
The cooling effect of coolsculpting comes from the cooling pads. the tissue has to be “drawn up” in to the device to actually sit in proximity to these cooling pads. the “stick of butter” is what you see if the tissue is well frozen. Some areas respond with a more pronounced frozen effect than others. For instance, the amount of tissue draw in the abdomen is typically better than that of the love handles. As for the other symptoms, I would not make too much of…
