Doctors
Dr. Nichols commonly treats patients with moderate to severe eyelid drooping (ptosis), making him an in-demand surgeon for blepharoplasty, also known as an eyelid lift. He also frequently performs lower eyelid surgery, to remove or contour lower fat pads and treat eye bags. Other patients seek him out for facial rejuvenation with injectables, including Botox and dermal fillers like Juvéderm.
“The majority of the patients that I operate on have realized that their droopy eyelids are descending, they have trouble reading, watching TV, or doing their daily activities of living,” says Dr. Nichols. “Patients come to me pretty motivated to have their upper eyelids corrected.”
For Dr. Nichols, surgery is where science, skill, and medical training meet art. “There is no greater joy than having a patient come in, and after we evaluate and treat them, when you get a successful result, it’s the greatest feeling—for me and for the patient, you can’t beat it.”
Dr. Nichols graduated with honors from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts with a B.A. in Biology. He continued his education at Tufts, earning his medical degree from the University’s School of Medicine in Boston.
After medical school, Dr. Nichols completed a one-year internship in internal medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine at New York University, then completed an Ophthalmology residency at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York where he went on to become Chief Resident at Westchester Medical Center.
Dr. Nichols continued his medical education with a one-year fellowship in Cornea and External Disease at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey. This was followed by an additional fellowship in Oculofacial Plastic Surgery with an American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) trained surgeon at Westchester Medical Center.
Dr. Nichols is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the New York Ophthalmology Society and the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology, and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Fluent in English and Spanish, Dr. Nichols is actively involved in the academic community and regularly presents and publishes research in the field of ophthalmology.
