Answer Snippet
Am I a good candidate for a cleft lip revision procedure to improve appearance?
Abbe flap
Jul 8, 2018
Hello and thank you for the question. I agree with Dr. Ruotolo in that you may be a good candidate for an Abbe flap but it appears you have a lower lip scar that raises the question as to whether you have already had this. The other techniques mentioned may be good options for you to complement your facial balance. I recommend you have a consultation with a cleft and craniofacial surgeon. Best of luck to you!
After otoplasty ears are slowly returning to the original position - 1.5 weeks post-op.
Otoplasty healing expectations
Jul 8, 2018
Thank you for the question regarding your recent otoplasty. Without images or an examination it is difficult to comment with accuracy but do know that after any surgery there will be a period of swelling that can temporarily obscure the results. Best to adhere to your surgeon's post operative instructions and follow up with any concerns. Best of luck to you and I hope you have an excellent outcome!
How long before you can see the results when you get Botox?
Full effects around 2 weeks
Jul 8, 2018
Thanks for the question. Botox tends to take approximately 5-7 days for initiation of effects with full results at 10-14 days. You may expect treatments to last approximately 3-5 months. Hope you have a great experience.
I just had gynecomastia surgery yesterday. It doesn't look any different than before I had it?
Post op edema
Oct 28, 2017
Looking worse before you look better is expected as the peak of swelling typically occurs at 48-72 hours after surgery. Most swelling resolves over the next 3 weeks and by 3 months, if healing is uncomplicated, you may expect contour to be settling into final results. Keep your follow up appointments with your surgeon and best of luck!
Long-term Effects of Coolsculpting?
PAH
Oct 28, 2017
I agree with many of the answers listed below. I would like to add, however, that there is an extremely low risk (but it does exist) of PAH or paradoxical adipose hypertrophy. What is this? A situation in which the fat cells treated by Coolsculpting become larger and the area looks fuller. This is very rare, but consumers should be aware of it's possibility.
Is there a maximum number of sessions one can have?
#Coolsculpting
Oct 28, 2017
One can typically continue undergoing treatment as long as there is adiposity to treat! We recommend allowing 1-3 months between treatments to assure an ultimate smooth contour. Best of luck!
I am looking to improve/get rid of noticeable bulges. Is CoolSculpting right for me?
Solutions
Feb 8, 2017
Thank you for the question. While Coolsculpting is a great option for diet and exercise resistant areas of fat, it doesn't tighten up significantly loose skin. You would likely be further disappointed with results if your lower abdomen were deflated of fat with Coolsculpting and you had resultant worsening of overhanging skin. As stated, you may best be served by seeing a board certified plastic surgeon for a surgical consultation to consider tummy tuck. Best of luck!
What kind of specialist should I go to for birthmark consulting/removal?
Nevus sebaceous
Apr 9, 2016
Thank you for the question and picture. This appears consistent with nevus sebaceous.  It is not uncommon for these to become more raised and symptomatic during puberty. There is a reported incidence of malignant degeneration and so the lesion should be monitored at the least. Excision can be undertaken by a board certified plastic surgeon.
Can this birthmark be removed ?
Laser versus serial excision
Apr 9, 2016
Thank you for the question. I agree with previous answers regarding the potential for lightening with a series of laser treatments. However, if unsuccessful, and you desire its removal (or if biopsy is warranted due to changes in the lesion) then serial excision could likely be performed. This would result in a long scar but is an option. Best of luck
CoolSculpting. Is it normal to see no results?
2 months for final results
Apr 9, 2016
As stated you may experience results as soon as 3 weeks post treatment but I typically tell patients to wait a full 3 months to see final results. Without your before and after pictures it is difficult to weigh in on how many treatments you may require to see the best outcome. Good luck!
Fractional CO2 to prevent aging?
CO2 for life
Oct 11, 2015
While CO2 laser is considered an ablative laser and may, therefore, intimidate the younger clientele, I believe it to be an extraordinary tool in treating fine line and wrinkles. Starting, as you have, relatively young at staving off the signs of aging will be to your great advantage! Best of luck
What is Helmet Molding Therapy?
Orthotic Helmet for Deformational Plagiocephaly
May 10, 2015
Orthotic helmets are typically used to mold asymmetric skull shapes in infants/young children as they relate to deformational plagiocephaly. They are also sometimes used in the postoperative period after surgery for craniosynostosis. They are approved for use in infants and your child's craniofacial team can best decide if appropriate for your child. Their use in deformational plagiocephaly is somewhat controversial and some insurance companies do not cover this treatment....
Should I massage a scar?
Timing of scar massage
May 10, 2015
Depending on the condition and healing of the scar, I typically reserve recommendations for massage until close to the 4-6 week mark. Scars take 8 weeks to regain their full strength, which is about 80% as strong as never-injured skin, so rough massage prior to this time may cause widening or irregular healing. I recommend SPF 30 or higher and a scar cream/gel with silicone/dimethicone such as you are using. Best of luck!
Do you continue to use neosporin once you start using scar gel?
Scar management
May 10, 2015
Depending on your particular incision, if your doctor recommended Neosporin, then typically you may apply it twice a day for 3 days then discontinue use. Protect your healing scar from sun exposure and use SPF 30 or higher once it is healed and you are cleared for application of topicals from your provider. Once you are ready to begin scar modalities such as gels or creams, you should not combine them with Neosporin or other topical antibiotic. Scars take 8 weeks to regain...
Can you have a hiatal hernia and have cool sculpting done?
Coolsculpting and Hernias
Jan 1, 2015
A preexisting abdominal wall hernia is a contraindication to Coolsculpting treatment in that area. However, a hiatal hernia does not preclude a candidate from treating the abdomen as this type of hernia is internal. Best of luck!
