Numbness And Bruising Following CoolSculpting
After doing CoolSculpting treatments for 8 years, I have found that the amount of numbness can vary from patient to patient, some will have it for a few weeks while others will have none at all.
Sometimes the area treated can affect whether numbness or discomfort are noticed afterwards. The good news is that numbness as well as discomfort have no bearing on the results since I have seen great results in patients who have had numbness or discomfort as well as in patients who had no side effects at all. (Mary Beth Mudd, MD, Columbus Physician)
I would say that most patients do develop some temporary numbness after a CoolSculpting treatment but the presence or absence of numbness is not related to the efficacy of the treatment.
I would discuss your concern with the physician who treated you. (Michael I. Echavez, MD, San Francisco Facial Plastic Surgeon)
The best thing to do is to follow up with the person who did your Coolsculpting for an evaluation. Our Coolsculpting specialist typically evaluates patients about 8 weeks after to check and see their results.
I am not sure what applicator you were treated with but the new devices are more comfortable for the patient and may not always have bruising or numbing post treatment.
Make a follow up visit with whomever did your treatment so that they can address these concerns.
If one correctly, Coolsculpting typically reduces the volume of the area by 20%. Keep in mind you will need to keep a healthy diet and exercise to maintain results. (Tom Tracey Gallaher, MD, Knoxville Plastic Surgeon)
CoolSculpting reactions
Every patient will react differently to CoolSculpting, however, bruising and pain is minimized with the latest CoolSculpting applicators, and the time is cut in half.
You should expect to see results within 6 weeks and full results in 3-4 months! (Mitchel P. Goldman, MD, San Diego Dermatologic Surgeon)
No bruising with CoolSculpting
The newest applicators, the only type we have at Cool & Fit, have less bruising. Everyone has a different experience. (Lillian Schapiro, MD, Atlanta OB-GYN)
Not every patient treated with CoolSculpting will experience bruising or numbness. The latest CoolSculpting applicators minimize bruising and still has the same results. (Vinay Aggarwal, MD, Los Angeles Physician)
You should always contact your practitioner if you are concerned about any aspect of your treatment, but it is not uncommon to experience no side effects following CoolSculpting especially with the new CoolAdvantage applicators. (Rita Rakus, MBBS, London Physician)
Bruising can occur after Coolsculpting; some medication can make the bruising worse such as blood thinners, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories. This leads to pain and swelling. It will subside but may take up to two weeks. Try arnica tablets or cream to settle the bruising a bit quicker. (Elisabeth Dancey, BM, BCAM, London Physician)
CoolSculpting Post Treatment Pain and Swelling
While CoolSculpting is a well tolerated procedure, some individuals complain of soreness and bruising for 1 -2 weeks. There is a lot going on since fat cells are being destroyed. In fact, some patients complain of numbness and heaviness for several weeks. (Justin Harper, MD, Columbus Physician)
The degree of discomfort after Coolsculpting treatments varies greatly from one person to another. The newer Advantage and smaller hand pieces are more comfortable. Over-the-counter anti-inflammatories may help with the soreness. (Alain Michon, MD, Ottawa Physician)
If you had the newer Coolsculpting Advantage hand pieces then you will experience less nerve pain.
The smaller handpieces also have less discomfort than the larger one. (Janet Allenby, DO, Delray Beach Dermatologic Surgeon)
Bruising after coolsculpting can be reduced
Some of the suggestions I give my patients follow, but be sure to talk to your CS provider to make sure they agree: You may be able to reduce bruising with the use of topical and oral Arnica Montana supplements.
Eating fresh pineapple (the core) provides a good source of natural anti-inflammatory, bromelain. Stay away from blood thinners that can increase bruising (aspirin, motrin, advil, etc., high doses of fish oil and garlic, etc.) Gentle massage and applying warm compresses will help break up the bruise for easier absorption and increase circulation to help the body breakdown the bruise.
Generally speaking, it will take large bruises a few weeks to resolve fully. (Vaishali B. Doolabh, MD, FACS, Jacksonville Plastic Surgeon)
Bruising after Coolsculpting
Brusing after Coolsculpting can occur mainly due to the suction on the applicators . Brusing causes pain and swelling . Numbness is due to temporary nerve irritation and occurs in most patients . Everything is temporary and your bruising should subside in about a week.
Using arnica will help . The degree of brusing you have is a bit excessive . If you were on a blood thinner , ibuprofen or aspirin this can contribute to the amount of bruising . If you were not , I would suggest having your platelet functions tested by your pmd at some point . (Drew Varano, MD, Washington DC Physician)
