How can I get insurance to cover a panniculectomy and breast reduction?
Panniculectomy and Reduction
Oct 24, 2019
Based on the photos you shared, it does not appear you would qualify for the Panniculectomy procedure or the Reduction Mammoplasty procedure, but it is always worth a try. Some insurances have different guidelines, but for the Panniculectomy to be approved, there usually needs to be more skin overhang that your pictures show. Many insurances in SC require a fold of skin that hangs below your pubis to even consider the Panniculectomy procedure as medically necessary. Similarly for Reduction…

Panniculectomy
Oct 24, 2019
I have to agree with some of the other messages here, as it does not appear from the photos that you are a candidate for panniculectomy at this time. Some additional weight loss may be required. Once you have accomplished this, and based on your medical history, a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon near you may recommend muscle wall correction, or additional suction to give you the flat abdomen you desire. Best of luck!
What is the suggested weight that I should be prior to my panniculectomy surgery?
Weigh Requirement
Oct 24, 2019
Hello!  Congratulations on your weight loss journey thus far! There is not a specific weight that a patient must be to be a candidate for Panniculectomy, but usually your insurance company and Plastic Surgeon do have some specific requirements. Usually the first requirement is having your BMI at less than 40, and if you are able to get it even closer to 35 or less, you would have a better post-surgical result. A stable weight for at least 6 months is also a usual requirement. Meet with a lo…

Procedure?
Sep 23, 2019
Hello- Thank you for submitting your photos and questions. From the pictures, it would seem that an extended Abdominoplasty or even a Circumferential Torsoplasty would be best. It may take a few surgeries to achieve the hourglass shape you would like, but consult with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon so that you can develop a plan to best suit your desired outcome.Best of luck.

Referral
Sep 23, 2019
Hello!  It can depend on your insurance to determine if a referral is required, based on the state in which you reside. Call your insurance company and ask them what they require in order to have a procedure approved. Some require a referral from the Primary Care. Sometimes the referral notes and supporting documentation is needed to submit a claim to support medical necessity. It all depends on your personal insurance and the state in which you live.  Find a Board Certified Plastic Su…

Follow Up
Sep 23, 2019
Hello! Thank you for the photos and questions. I agree that you should follow up with your surgeon to assess what might be causing the protrusion. Usually hernia repair is done at the same time as a Panniculectomy and Abdominoplasty (though not always if only the Panniculectomy was done). Your surgeon is the best resource as they are most familiar with your pre-surgery body and what might have been done during surgery-Best of luck!
Can I get approved for a panniculectomy after 4 c sections?
Panniculectomy
Sep 23, 2019
From the photo posted, it is difficult to get the full picture as to what procedure may be best for you. Find a local Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who can answer some of your specific questions. Good Luck!
Should I get a panniculectomy or tummy tuck?
Panniculectomy vs Tummy Tuck
Sep 23, 2019
Hello! Thank you for your question and photos. From the pictures posted, I do not believe you would be a candidate for Panniculectomy, as the abdominal skin does not appear to hang below the pubis, this is often one of the requirements by BCBS. It looks as though you would be an excellent candidate for Abdominoplasty with muscle tightening and liposuction for a smooth contour.   Always consult a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon near you for your specific questions. Good Luck!
How far does my belly have to hang to qualify for panniculectomy?
Panniculectomy
Sep 23, 2019
Hello! Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, from the photos you shared, your abdomen does not appear to hang down (fold) as much as would likely be required by insurance to be considered a Panniculectomy. In South Carolina, most insurances require the abdominal skin to hang down lower than the pubis. Most insurance also requires a substantial amount of documentation from other MD’s that support skin fold issues like rash, open sores, yeast, etc.   You appear to be a good candidate fo…

Unfortunately, the photos you shared are too close up for any problems to be seen. It is difficult to diagnose any specific problems via RealSelf, but from the photos you shared, it is difficult to see anything but just the color of your skin. If you are unhappy with your result, I would recommend to return to your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon so that you can express your concerns and see if they feel a correction is needed.Best of luck-

Symmetry
Jul 23, 2019
Hello-  I hope that with the passing of time, your questions of symmetry have resolved, as the original posting was just 2 weeks post-operative. From the pictures you shared, as well as the information that supported some initial asymmetry, it appears you have a wonderful result. Breasts are never going to be perfectly symmetric, we often say “breasts are sisters, not twins.” Surgery can help to get breasts as close as possible, but they will never be perfectly the same. The overall result l…

High Profile
Jul 23, 2019
Hello-  From the pictures you shared, you have a nice aesthetically pleasing result, although your breasts may be slightly lower than your “dream photo.” A higher profile implant would not correct the “lowness” of your current breast, likely the only correction would be to lift the breast higher by removing more skin below the breast. A higher profile implant might make the breast project farther out, but it will not make the breast shape fuller in a high way (upper pole fullness). It can …

Jul 23, 2019
Hello,  Thank you for sharing your pictures. Although it can be difficult to understand every case without the full history, or information regarding where your breasts “started” prior to surgery, it would seem that a change could be made. If your doctor does not feel a revision is necessary, you have the right to consult another physician. Overall, the areolar placement looks correct, although you may have had some difficulty with scarring during recovery. Sometimes weight fluxuations can m…

Reduction
Jul 22, 2019
Hello,  It can be difficult to tell the difference in size from the pictures you shared, as we do not know the size of the breasts prior to your Reduction. Some asymmetry is normal, specifically just after surgery, as most patients are asymmetric to start with. From your photos, you look to be having standard post operative progress, as the breasts do not look excessively swollen nor do your photos show a lot of drainage, which is also very normal. At 2 weeks, most patients are still …
Looking for a plastic surgeon on here for Panniculectomy procedures near Indiana,
questions
Jul 22, 2019
Hello,I am a little confused as to the question you are asking. It seems that your question is to see if you are a good candidate for surgery after losing 75-100 lbs, and your current weight is between 350-400 lbs? If that is correct, unfortunately, you are not quite a surgical candidate yet. To be considered a good surgical candidate for elective surgery (meaning you are choosing to do the procedure) your BMI would need to be under 39. BMI is your Body Mass Index and is calculated based on …
