Is this scar normal around belly button?
Scar around the belly button
Sep 18, 2014
Thank you for the pictures. You do have some thickening on the right side of the belly button. Steroid, silicone or scar massage can reduce the scar as you are still early in your healing process and scars can take up to a year to mature. If you want to reduce the size of your belly button you can certainly remove the scar and make it a little smaller. Belly button revisions usually end up with better scars as you don't have the tension and swelling in the area from...
If they have to replace a drain, is it done with local anesthesia or general anesthesia?
Replace the drain after tummy tuck, local or general anesthesia
Sep 18, 2014
Swelling in the lower abdomen after tummy tuck may be a fluid collection or it could just be swelling in the tissues. Fluid collections or seromas can occur after tummy tucks but you do not always need to replace the drain. In most cases draining the serous fluid with a needle and wearing a compression garment can work. In some cases serial aspirations may be needed but it is not as common to need to replace the drain. If the drain does have to be replaced a seroma...

Hernia after c-section
Sep 18, 2014
Thank you for including the photos. Hernias are best diagnosed by exam and it is possible that you have a hernia from the c-section, diastasis or a combination of the two. I would recommend a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon or a general surgeon so that you can explore your options.
How extensive will my Mommy Makeover be? How much should I expect to pay?
Price for a mommy makeover
Aug 24, 2014
Thank you for the photos. There are some variables as to the surgery that would give you the most benefit. With the nipple position where it is I would recommend a lift and if you want to add volume to the breasts an implant would be needed. For the abdomen a tummy tuck or Major Abdominoplasty would remove the majority of the stretch marks, tighten the muscles and remove excess skin. You do have some stretch marks above the belly button and these would end up low on...
My stomach has developed fluid and now looks hideous.
Fluid after tummy tuck
Aug 24, 2014
Fluid collections and drainage can occur in the early stages after a tummy tuck but your best option is to follow up with your plastic surgeon. Physical examination will determine if you have a fluid collection (seroma) that can be drained or if there is another problem.
I read here full results from a lift can take up to a year. I just had midface lift & am not sure
How long to see the results after facelift surgery?
Aug 6, 2014
Final results after a facelift surgery can take up to 6 months for the swelling and smoothness to return but those changes are more subtle. Scars fade and the color of skin returns to normal and the feeling returns over the 6-12 month period. For the most part there are no major changes that occur after the first month. If you had a midface lift you may have some swelling down in the jowl and chin area which should improve over a period of several weeks but it is unlikely...

Nasolabial folds after facelift surgery
Aug 6, 2014
Thank you for the photo. You do still look swollen but from what can be seen in the photo your results look good. The folds look softened and natural and the fullness is a more youthful appearance. Time will improve the result as the swelling goes down and it is hard to predict this early how it will look. The face should have some contour and definition to it to produce a natural youthful look. Overfilling or a flattened look gives the face an unnatural appearance.

Threw up from food poisoning 7 weeks after facelift
Aug 6, 2014
Food poisoning is a horrible experience to go through. Throwing up can certainly increase swelling in the face but you should be healed well enough after 7 weeks not to have any serious adverse effects. I do still recommend following up with your surgeon just as a check.Hope you feel better.
Why do my breasts and nipples hurt so much?
Why do my breasts and nipples hurt so much?
Aug 6, 2014
Thank you for the question. There can be several reasons for breast pain. Implants can certainly contribute to pain in the form of capsular contracture. If the capsule around the implant has become firm the breasts can become painful to the touch and even have a constant aching pain. You would know this from the feel of the implants. If they are hard then this may be a contributing factor and if they are still soft and moveable then it is unlikely...

What would you classify as "later future" in years
Aug 6, 2014
Thank you for the question. The decision of when to have breast augmentation is a personal one and patients usually fall into one of two groups. Younger patients who have not had children yet and want to increase their breast size and then patients who have had children and have lost a lot of volume and shape and want to return to a previous size or fullness. There is no detriment to the breast or breastfeeding to have implants before childbearing. The changes that...
Can I develop a 2nd hematoma 3 weeks post op?
Hematoma after surgey
Aug 6, 2014
You certainly experienced a very unusual complication. Hematomas can occur several weeks out from surgery but are more common in the first few days. The real key with post op recovery is to limit your activity to light activity with no heavy lifting to allow your body to heal and to prevent any complications. Patients who are fit and healthy recover faster and may feel very good but you still need to limit your activity.I recommend no exercise for 4 weeks and then a graded...
Breast augmentation... Which approach is less painful with quicker recovery?
Breast augmentation, quickest recovery
Jul 17, 2014
The first couple of days after the breast augmentation are the most uncomfortable but most patients by day 2-3 are getting off their pain medication and being a little more active. If your job is a sedentary job without too much lifting you should be able to get back to it after 4 days but you will still be a little sore and tired.I find that a nerve block during surgery along the ribs helps with post op pain and allows patients to be more active faster. I find the inframammary...

Implants too big 7 weeks post op
Jul 17, 2014
Thank you for including the pictures. Breast size is a personal decision but you are probably still swollen and getting used to the size of the breasts. There is no right size for any body frame as a lot depends on your goals and your personality. VS bras do tend to run a lot smaller than standard bras and the traditional measuring is for non augmented breasts and tends to oversize augmented breasts.Try on some bras at a department store to get a better idea of your size...
I Am Allergic to Codeine. Any Suggestions for Pain Control After Mommy Makeover?
Allergic to codeine
Jul 17, 2014
We have several different kinds of pain medications available for patients who may be sensitive or allergic to one kind. Some patients get nauseated from narcotics in general and this can be helped by eating bland food prior to taking the medication. If all narcotics are a problem several non narcotic pain meds are available such as tramadol. Your surgeon should have seeveral options available to you.

Itching 5 weeks after TT
Jul 17, 2014
Medications are usually the culprits for itching after surgery but as you have stopped all medication that is unlikely. Swelling and normal healing can cause itching from dry skin and the nerves coming back to life. Compressive garments can also rub and irritate the skin. Keeping the skin moisturized can help prevent dryness. If you have a rash, follow up with your surgeon or your family practioner may be helpful.
