Doctor’s answers

Question

Answer Snippet
Does CoolSculpting permanently kill fat cells?
Yes, it does!
Jun 13, 2020
There is no doubt that many of the fat cells that get frozen through CoolSculpting will die off and get eliminated over a period of several weeks. The loss of fat (and of fat cells) achieved through CoolSculpting is permanent, like the loss of fat obtained through liposuction.
How long will it take to see my CoolMini results?
You should see results in 2 to 3 months, but there is a small chance CoolSculpting will not work for you
Jun 13, 2020
Most experienced centers recommend 2 rounds of CoolSculpting for the fat under the chin. Like for any other part of the body, however, it is always nice to see some improvement before going ahead with a second round. That is why we tend to wait 2 to 3 months before that 2nd round. CoolSculpting is still the best non-invasive fat reduction technology, but it is not perfect. We get a visual reduction of any collection in approximately 95% of patients, which means that there is a 5%…
Does CoolSculpting result in sagging of the skin where the fat loss has taken place?
Sagging of the skin is not likely
Jun 13, 2020
It is very uncommon (in fact, pretty rare) to see more laxity of the skin after CoolSculpting treatment. In fact, we have seen a little bit of skin tightening in some patients after CS, although it should not be considered a skin tightening modality. If there is a clearly palpable fat collection, I would clearly proceed with CS first. Then, depending on the appearance, I would give consideration to CoolTone (or Emsculpt) to increase muscle tone. If there is any skin laxity to start with, the…
How long should I wait between CoolSculpting?
2 to 3 months is optimal
Jun 13, 2020
Usually we like to wait 2 to 3 months before proceeding with a second round to ensure that there is a decent response. However, if it is clear that you are responding, some practices will go ahead and treat with a second round, without waiting for 3 months. In our practice, we prefer to see the full result of the first round before going ahead with a second round.
Can CoolSculpting cause lumpiness/rippling like liposuction?
It is unlikely with proper technique and application.
Jun 13, 2020
With proper technique/ application, this would be a very rare occurrence (that we have not seen). The main reason is that liposuction depends on the technical aspect of running a small tube (less than ¼ inch) under the skin multiple times, trying to evenly remove the collection of fat. On the other hand, the CoolSculpting applicator brings in a collection of fat that gets frozen, leading to a relatively even reduction of the collection.
Can you have Dual CoolSculpting on the lower abdomen?
I do not recommend DualSculpting of the abdomen.
Jun 13, 2020
It is interesting that you were given 2 different answers on that topic. We perform a lot of DualSculpting. However, one area where we almost never use DualSculpting is the abdomen. The main reason is that when one puts the applicator in place and applies the suction prior to starting the treatment, it will draw in the entire area that is to be frozen/ melted, thereby creating a significant pull on the adjacent area. If at the same time, you try to apply the second applicator and turns the…
I am concerned CoolSculpting and other fat melting machines make you look worse, is there a risk of
Ensure FDA-approved technology and properly trained staff
Jun 13, 2020
There is no doubt that poor technique/ application may lead to undesirable results. Training of the staff and experience in body shaping are important parameters to look at when exploring different avenues and facilities. You also have to make sure that the system used is the official system that is approved by the FDA (and not a counterfeit piece of equipment).
Should I do CoolSculpting before or after losing weight?
Wait until you are in your usual routine
Jun 13, 2020
We always tell our patients to avoid a “boot camp” before undergoing any fat reduction procedure. The same applies here. You should do it through your regular lifestyle. I would proceed whenever you are ready and pursue your usual lifestyle of exercise and diet. Of the different non-surgical fat reducing technologies, CoolSculpting still appears to be #1.
What is the best nonsurgical fat reduction treatment for inner thighs and saddle bags?
CoolSculpting
Jun 13, 2020
For the inner thighs, I believe that the best track record is with CoolSculpting. The saddlebag area is a little trickier and the approach would depend on the shape and the thickness of the collection; it is an area where if too much fat is removed, one may create a significant depression of the tissues (or divot). For small collections, we have seen some nice improvement with Exilis Ultra, using the “deep” mode to reduce those small collections, without running the risk of a “divot”.
CoolSculpting over previous lipo area?
CoolSculpting may not help
May 11, 2018
Coolsculpting works well for defined collections of fat for the inner thighs. We have to be more selective for collections of the outer thighs (size, depth, etc.)

However, if you have some irregularities/ indentation from a prior liposuction, without associated residual fat collection, Coolsculpting will not be of any help.

A non-invasive system such as Exilis Ultra may help improve this irregular appearance. If the indentations are deep, fat transfer may need to be done.

Good luck!

Botox cheek droop. Is it permanent?
No:
Feb 17, 2016
None of the side effects of Botox is permanent. If any unexpected relaxation of a muscle occurs after Botox
treatment, it is likely cause by a slight migration of the Botox (after rubbing
the area, for example) or because of some technical issues at the time of the
injection. These side effects should clear in 6 to 8 weeks (but may last up o
12 weeks).
Botox to prevent future wrinkles?
Botox to prevent wrinkles:
Feb 17, 2016
Many of our wrinkles
are caused by the contraction of our muscles (for example forehead lines, smile
lines or crows feet, frowning lines, lines around the lips). There is no doubt
that by keeping those muscles relaxed with Botox will cut down significantly on
the formation of those wrinkles. Once these wrinkles start forming, the use of
Botox on a consistent basis (every 3 months) will allow a slow elimination of
those wrinkles.
If I take Coumadin, can I have Botox or other similar treatments?
Botox & Coumadin
Feb 17, 2016
If you are on any type of blood thinner (strong ones such as Coumadin,
or milder ones such as Aspirin), you are more likely to see bruising after
Botox injections. However, the occurrence of bruising remains small, since Botox
is injected with such a fine needle. If you are considering fillers, you should
have a solid discussion with your physician/ injector. The use of cannulas
(blunt tube) instead of needles should be a must if you go ahead with fillers.
Can I receive Botox injections 1 week prior to an EMatrix treatment?
Botox after EMatrix
Feb 17, 2016
Any skin treatment 1 week after Botox injections is PROBABLY safe.
However if you have the choice, I would recommend getting the Botox injections
done 1 week after the EMatrix treatment. Some physicians will do it immediately
after the skin treatment.
Droopy Eyelids after Botox? Or Aging?
It might be due to Botox.
Feb 17, 2016
Drooping of the eyelid may occur if any amount of Botox, when injected
for the forehead or for the frowning muscles, makes its way down to the eyelid
muscles, either by rubbing the area after the injection or by a suboptimal
technique. It is estimated to occur in about 1% of Botox treatments, but is never
permanent.
