Statement: Dr. J.D. McCoy is a naturopathic physician based in Gilbert, Arizona, who specializes in nonsurgical and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures of the face and body. Dr. McCoy is one of the top injectors in Arizona and throughout the country, specializing in injectables like Botox, Sculptra, and other dermal fillers. His practice, Contour Medical, also offers body contouring treatments like CoolSculpting, Emsculpt, and Vanquish, as well as facial rejuvenation procedures like thread lifts (a nonsurgical facelift) and Halo laser resurfacing. And he provides weight management services, vaginal rejuvenation, and hormone therapy.

Dr. McCoy understands that his patients not only want to look good, but feel good as well. That’s why optimizing internal health is so vital, when it comes to enhancing the appearance. His principles include prevention—using treatments such as light therapy, supplements, and other natural solutions—to eliminate or reduce any need for more invasive procedures. He and his staff work to ensure each patient is treated in a safe and comfortable environment and is satisfied with their results.

After receiving his doctorate in naturopathic medicine from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, Dr. McCoy completed his internal medicine training in Hawaii. He then immersed himself in the studies of cosmetic and light-based therapies.

He is an advanced injection trainer and certified physician speaker for Dysport, Restylane, and Perlane, as well as a Clinical Advisor for Accent XL.

Dr. McCoy is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, and he is the first naturopathic physician to attain membership in the organization. He is also a founding board member of the Naturopathic Physicians Board of Aesthetic Medicine.

What is better for slimming/tightening thighs–CoolScupting or Emsculpt?
Typically Emsculpt would be the winner, or a different option all together
Aug 14, 2020
Usually for thigh toning and/or slimming I’d chose Emsculpt over coolsculpting. I have treated thighs with good success in building muscle and improving skin quality. It isn’t talked about much, but I find in most of my Emsculpt patients the skin quality appears significantly improved (not just gain in muscle). My impression is that it is more than just having tissue tighter from increase in the underlying muscle. It could be from he improved blood flow during the treatment or there may be…
Is Bellafill in the nose safe?
Nose no-no’s…….
Aug 13, 2020
Most important thing with non-surgical nose reshaping is working with an injector that has significant experience (injecting the full face including the nose). Most patients opt for a more temporary correction the first time they get treatment to the nose (hyaluronic acid based product). Bellafill is used off-label for nose reshaping, and it is one of my preferred options when correcting the nose and nasal bridge (and piriform aperture). I am fine using a longer lasting product in a patient…
How long will Bellafill last in chin area for chin augmentation?
Love Bella in the chin……and jawline
Jul 28, 2020
One of the most elegant fillers to inject is Bellafill. It is a great option for structural areas that need definition or some projection. The result is from a long term stimulation of your own collagen, so it is your own stuff and improves with time. There is an instant result from treatment, but there will be continued improvement weeks and months after injection. When I am correcting an area like the chin I prefer to build the result over multiple treatments (typically 2-3 spaced apart)-…
How to treat super clogged and enlarged pores on the nose?
POREFECTION!
Jul 28, 2020
There are many different options for treating enlarged/congested pores. The top two picks I prefer are Halo Resurfacing (higher end of the spectrum as far as cost and result with a single treatment) and Aquagold with Benev Exosomes and Microtox treatment (less expensive option, fast acting). Halo is by far one of the best pore reduction tools that is available. It does address more than just pores. Other skin quality issues, such as pigment/discoloration, fine lines, texture issues are all…
What is the best way to use a keto diet during Emsculpt treatments?
to Keto or not to Keto: that is the question!
Jul 17, 2020
I was one of the very early clinical sites for the Emsculpt (started using the prototype in 2016)- so I’ve performed among the most treatments in the Country. I have played with diet and some supplementation to see if there is a significant impact on the treatment results. I did not perform a controlled study, but used observation of clinical outcome. Highly subjective stuff eh! After doing a ton of treatments with no significant modification of diet, I can say that the treatment works…
Would 8 Emsculpt sessions be a waste? I was told that you plateau after 6
more isn’t always better…..but from experience, more is better with some time between
Jul 15, 2020
I started working with the Emsculpt prototype in 2016 (2nd clinic in the country) and I was a clinical site for the glute lifting study (published in Journal of Drugs in Dermatology). We have performed 1000s of treatments on males and females. The standard protocol of 4 treatments works beautifully. From my experience there is a distinct advantage to doing an additional treatment 4-6 weeks post 4 treatment protocol (my standard protocol in 4 treatments in 2 weeks, 5th treatment 4-6 weeks…
Will Emsculpt help reduce fat from my BBL? BBL way too big, looking for ways to reduce!
emsculpt is not the answer……
Jul 15, 2020
I was a clinical site for the glute lifting study (published in Journal of Drugs in Dermatology) and have performed 100s of treatments on male and female glutes. I don’t see any volume loss in patients and I also have patients over 2 years post treatment that have maintained their results beautifully. If you maintain physical activity (especially if you have a history of doing any kind of weight bearing exercise for your legs), you will maintain nicely. Emsculpt is unique because it isn’t…
Hi. I want to know if there are any procedures that will help my neck?
Non-surgical will be a big project
Jul 15, 2020
I’m a straight shooter when it comes to the neck. You are definitely a surgical candidate. However, one of the decisions many patients make is surgery vs non-surgery. If you are open to surgery, I would suggest consulting for that. If you would prefer non-surgical (or minimally-invasive), then that is certainly an option. Realistically, a great result will NOT come from any single treatment. It will require a treatment plan that would combine multiple treatments that address multiple planes…
Am I a good candidate for a face Thread Lift to correct volume loss and sagginess?
threads before filler…..that is the question
Jul 15, 2020
I did my first thread lift in 2005 (I’ve most types of threads- temporary and long lasting). I’d say that the main advantage to adding threads is a reduced need for filler. Key word is reduced- it does not replace filler. I typically prefer to do filler and threads in the same visit. Alternatively, I feel like most patients do well to start with a conservative correction with volume and then follow up with threads at a follow up visit. Looking at the pics, I’d say you are a good candidate…
Emsculpt or tummy tuck? Which one can help with diastasis recti?
Wreked Recti!
Feb 27, 2019
The only non-surgical treatment that I have seen improvement with Diastasis recti is with Emscultpt. The abdominal MRI/Ultrasound data that was collected post an treatment with Emsculpt confirmed significant improvement in the abdominal separation. Cases with over 50% improvement were not uncommon. Clinically, I have seen improvements consistently in abdominal medial space- definitively worth considering Emsculpt for this purpose, especially since there are no other…
Does Emsculpt actually make you stronger?
Observed functional improvement in many patients
Feb 27, 2019
As one of the earliest users of Emsculpt, I’ve done more clinical treatments than most. We’ve treated multiple body types, including elite athletes, bodybuilders, pros. In addition, I have had patients do the treatment with a goal more oriented toward strength and posture vs the cosmetic improvement. Functional change and increased strength appears to be a consistent outcome with the Emsculpt. The FDA indication is not a functional indication, but clinical obs…
What is the best filler or procedure to fill in lines under the nose and above the lips?
under nose lines and lip lines: complex correction with volume (restylane Defyne/Refyne), botox/dysport, resurfacing (J-Plasma)
Oct 4, 2017
This is actually a complex case based on the photo. The crease is difficult to address with volume correction (filler) alone. A significant potion of what is causing the crease under the nose is muscular in nature (animation, smiling, etc. accentuates it). Sometimes a tiny injection of botox or dysport will relax the muscles causing the excess animation and some volume correction for the lines themselves (I gravitate toward Restylane Refyne and Defyne in this area since it…
Asymmetrical face. Can it be fixed with filler?
Correcting asymmetry: Botox/Dysport, Volume correction, Thread lift
Oct 3, 2017
Firstly, everyone has asymmetry. One of the first line treatments to assist with symmetry is botox/dysport. It is not really all about wrinkle reduction, but elevating and correcting asymmetry based on where you relax the muscle and how much product you use (you can elevate one brow more than the other, etc). Volume correction also helps with correction of asymmetry, especially if it is in an area that Botox or Dysport won’t help much. My preference is to use longer…
Contour Light – truth of myth?
CONTOUR LIGHT (low level light therapy or LLLT)
Sep 5, 2017
Using the Contour Light or other lights that fall into the category of low level light therapy can certainly add to the benefits you have already seen from coolsculpting. However, from my experience with LLLT it is not very predictable. I used to offer it for patients, but I no longer have the laser for body contouring purposes since it was highly unpredictable (some patients would see minimal change while about 20% of the time it would be very drastic- for no apparent reason)….
Light Botox has left some faint lines in my ’11s’ – would simply upping the dose in the area knock these
11’s not completely gone with Botox
Aug 30, 2017
Typically continued treatment with Botox with soften deeply etched lines- meaning they will tend to soften more over time (repeated treatments). If a patient wants a more significant improvement then adding some volume can further soften lines, as can treatments that address skin quality (Halo laser resurfacing, Rf micro needling with Intracel, or other forms of resurfacing). Also, good quality homecare product in conjunction with all of the above can also help (Retinol, Retin-A,…
