Should the orbicularis oris muscle be relaxed or tightened to raise upper lip?
Lip flip
Sep 14, 2021
Botox will paralyze the orbicularis oris muscle near where it is injected. Our experience is that the effect is very subtle. We inject anywhere from 4 to 10 units above the pink part of the upper lip–usually about 1 cm medial to the lateral border of the lip and about 1 cm lateral to the philtrum column on each side. Generally this would be expected to let the upper lip turn outward slightly to give a fuller appearance. Small doses for this can make it difficult to whistle or use a straw to…
I’m looking for fat shrinking and skin tightening from losing nearly 50lbs in the past year (can’t u
Non-invasive skin tightening and fat destruction.
Sep 14, 2021
Exilis Ultra uses no needles, knives or injection. This is a totally non-invasive treatment that uses radiofrequency to tighten skin and destroy fat. A wand which channels radiofrequency current and ultrasound to the skin or fat (depending on the settings) can be used to destroy fat cells or tighten the skin. Exilis can be used to treat from “nose to toes” and it feels like a hot stone massage. This would be a good option for you.
Can Botox be used to correct asymmetrical eyes?
Asymmetric eye appearance
Jul 7, 2021
My opinion is that your left eyebrow is slightly more arched in the outer third than the right eyebrow. There are times when we do Botox treatments and one or both eyebrows end up with an pronounced upward arch. This is sometimes referred to as a “Spock eye”. We routinely treat this by injecting about one unit of Botox one centimeter above the highest point of the arch. This would be an quick and inexpensive thing to try. The results would last for two to three months.
What could be done, if anything, to address the sagging of my mid face and neck skin after losing 20
Skin tightening
Jul 7, 2021
You have had several procedures to tighten your facial skin. You could add Exilis Ultra to this in order to further tighten your skin in your lower face and neck. Exilis Ultra uses as combination of radiofrequency injury and ultrasound to cause a subclinical injury to your face. Your skin will respond to these treatments (usually 4 or 5) by producing more collagen and elastin which would be expected to tighten your skin further. Our practice is to treat the lower face and neck on one side…
When can I do CoolSculpting after having a rhino-septoplasty?
Coolsculpting after rhino-septoplasty
Jul 7, 2021
Most surgeons would consider patients safe to return to full activities within 6 weeks of major surgery that has had no complications. This is because most post operative healing takes place within this time frame although complete healing will require about a year. You should be safe to start Coolsculpting at any time.
What treatments/procedures would you suggest for wrinkles and Loose Skin Between Brows?
Treating glabellar lines
Jul 6, 2021
Botox is generally very effective for treating “frown lines”, but needs to be done every two to three months as the Botox starts to wear off. Exilis Ultra from BTL can be used on the forehead areas and around the eyes to help with wrinkles and tighten skin. This device uses a combination of radiofrequency energy and ultrasound to cause a subclinical injury to the treated skin. The skin reacts by producing more collagen and elastin which are substances we lose as we age. In addition to this,…
Which treatment is better for me? Ultra Femme 360 vs. ThermiVa vs. BTL Emsella
Treatment of incontinence
Jul 6, 2021
The BTL Emsella device is FDA approved for the treatment of female and male urinary incontinence including stress, urge, and mixed incontinence. The treatment is non-invasive and you can wear thin pants. The device uses a powerful magnet to cause the patient to have approximately 11,700 supra-maximal Kegel contractions in 28 minutes. The usual course of treatment is twice or three times a week for a total of six treatments. All the women in our office have given this device their…
Would Exilis help with my under chin area. I’m 29 year old and I only weigh 105 lbs.
Exilis for skin tightening
Jun 30, 2021
We would recommend doing Exilis Ultra on your lower face and neck for the best results. For those patients who have a pocket of fat under the chin (you would need to be examined by someone familiar with this condition), Coolsculpting can help minimize the pocket of fat and improve the appearance of this area.
Can Botox help these eye wrinkles?
Botox and eye wrinkles
Jun 17, 2021
Squinting will bring out wrinkles which are referred to as “crow’s feet” at the lateral borders of the eyes (also called lateral canthal lines). Botox will treat these areas very well by paralyzing a portion of the orbicularis oculi muscles. The lines adjacent to your nose may respond to Botox somewhat and are called “bunny lines”–treating the nasalis muscle may help with this area. For the area directly under your eyes, you have other options. A non-invasive option would be to treat this…
19- Weight Loss Surgery?
Weight loss for a BMI of 40
Jun 17, 2021
Your question was listed under “gastric balloon”. This procedure is done endoscopically and the balloon is removed after 6 months and insurance doesn’t pay for the balloon. Originally the balloon was meant to bridge the gap between patients who could diet and exercise and those who meet criteria for weight loss surgery (gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and lap banding). If your insurance coverage includes bariatric benefits, I would advise you to have weight loss surgery–especially if…
Can I have fat freezing on my tummy? I had testicular cancer 15 years ago: type 1 seninoma.
Coolsculpting after seminoma
Jun 17, 2021
Coolsculpting only affects and treats the subcutaneous fat which is held within the applicator during treatment. It would not be expected to affect deeper tissues. If you have had external beam radiation, it would be wise to consult with your urologist and radiation oncologist. Radiation can cause changes to blood vessels and decrease blood supply to various tissues. If you had radiation treatment of the lymph nodes near the aorta, then you need further evaluation from your treating…
What can I do about my loose wrinkled skin?
Wrinkled skin
Jun 7, 2021
We would recommend using Exilis Ultra to tighten loose, wrinkled skin. Exilis is non-invasive and painless. The usual routine would be to treat about once every 7 to 10 days for 4 treatments at a minimum. The combination of radiofrequency energy and ultrasound used by Exilis causes the skin to form new collagen and elasting which will help to tighten the skin. Procedures which are designed to kill fat cells would be likely to result in looser skin. Another option would be to surgically…
What can I do about my deep frown line?
Frown lines and Botox
Jun 7, 2021
The frown lines in the lower forehead are referred to as “glabellar lines”. This is an area of the face where Botox can help to smooth out these lines. Usually about 20 units of Botox are injected in this area–5 injections of 4 units of Botox in each area. This is one of the standard areas where Botox is indicated for use to smooth out wrinkles (along with the upper forehead and crow’s feet around the eyes). The injections are used to partially paralyze the procerus muscle above the bridge…
What treatment do I need for my legs?
Options for cellulite
Jun 7, 2021
We would approach your legs with Exilis Ultra which uses a combination of radiofrequency energy (which generates heat in the subcutaneous tissue) and ultrasound (which increases blood flow) in order to tighten skin, and decrease fatty deposits as needed. We would also use Cellutone which uses ultrasonic energy to increase blood flow, increase lymphatic drainage and breaks down fibrous tissue. Severe cases of cellulite can be approached surgically with liposuction and/or surgical skin tightening.
Considering Switching Providers. What information does a new provider need?
Switching injectors
Jun 7, 2021
Generally speaking if you’re going to a new provider for Botox and fillers you would need a brief medical history (medical conditions, allergies, medication list, and a list of previous operations). Some sort of summary of what kinds of fillers and what kinds of neuromuscular blockers (Botox, Newtox, Dysport, etc.) you’ve had and how you’ve reacted to them would be helpful to get you started with a new injector. Different practices will also have their own forms to fill out, so getting those…
