Does Coolsculpting Really Kill Fat Cells?
Coolsculpt permanently removes a proprotion of fat cells in the treated areas
The cryolipolysis procedure actually causes cell death in the treat areas. An average of about 25% of treated cells will die.
This will not return unless you start gaining weight excessively.
There is not enough fate cell reduction for your whole body to go through a shift, unless you treat your whole body with several rounds of entire body coolsculpting!. (Ravi Jain, MBBS, London Physician)
Coolsculpting freezes the fat cells causing them to undergo apoptosis/cell death.
Your body then eliminates those cells through its normal processes (as would happen if you had an injury or surgery). Coolsculpting is effective for removing bulges resulting from excess fat under the skin, and approximately 20% reduction occurs with each applicator cycle.
Things to look for in a busy experienced CS center include providers with advanced Coolsculpting University training, multiple machines, and the new Advantage applicators that are more comfortable and take less time. (Vaishali B. Doolabh, MD, FACS, Jacksonville Plastic Surgeon)
CoolSculpting changes the amount of fat cells in your body
First of all, keep in mind that fat cells are actually storage cells. Once you’ve gone through puberty, you don’t make any more of them.
They will expand and contract based on the amount of energy your body uses. CoolSculpting will get rid of 22-25% of the fats cells that are in the applicator during the treatment and these cells will be gone for good, just like the fat that’s removed by liposuction is gone for good.
The issue is that without proper diet and exercise after the treatment, the fat cells which are left behind can expand. That’s why it’s important to maintain a healthy lifestyle to maintain your results. (David B. Reath, MD, Knoxville Plastic Surgeon)
Does CoolSculpting Reduce the Number of Fat Cells?
Absolutely! CoolSculpting is the first FDA cleared non-invasive and non-surgical procedure for the permanent removal of fat cells. Each CoolSculpting treatment rendered remove 20-25% of the fat cells from the treated area. Most patients do need a minimum of 2 treatments to achieve their desired results.
The good news is that these fat cells die, are removed by the lymphatic drainage system, and are never seen or heard from again. The adult body has a set number of fat cells which get bigger or smaller when weight is gained or lost.
CoolSculpting removes the cells that from the bulges, and presents a smooth and natural looking result. And, there is little to no downtime. I would highly recommend scheduling a consultation with a reputable and experienced CoolSculpting provider to see if you are a good candidate.(Edward Stokes, MD, West Hollywood Physician)
coolsculpting reduced 20-25% of the subcutaneous fat in the area(s) that are treated. They are eliminated by a process call apoptosis there by changing the inner of fat cells in your body. (Drew Varano, MD, Washington DC Physician)
CoolSculpting does kill a percentage of fat cells in the area treated only. For instance, if you treat your abdomen, the fat cells in that area will reduce by 20-25%. The way the body works, you have your set amount of fat cells by your adolescence.
Those fat cells just get bigger and smaller when you gain and lose weight. CoolSculpting will reduce the fat in the area treated, it will not alter fat cells in other areas of your body.
Because only a percentage of fat cells are killed, you are still able to gain weight in that area, but you do not have as many fat cells to enlarge. (Nancy Becker, DO, Puyallup Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Coolsculpting and fat cells
The number of fat cells are reduced by 20-25% with each treatment. However, if you gain weight, the fat cells can still increase in size. Even if your overall weight hasn’t changed, but you have an increase in body fat percentage (meaning you have more fat weight than before but less muscle or water weight so your overall weight hasn’t changed) you can have an increase in size of the remaining fat cells.
I encourage you to visit your physician for follow up and clinical recommendation. (Mariam Cappiello, MD, Chestnut Hill Anesthesiologist)
Coolsculpting works by gently and precisely lowering the temperature of the fat cells in the treatment area to a critical temperature, a process known technically as cryolipolysis.
Through this process the degree of cooling causes the apoptosis (cell death) of the subcutaneous fat under the skin while leaving the overlying skin intact.
After the fat cells die from this process they are eliminated by your body through the lymphatic system. So yes, Coolsculpting reduces the amount of fat cells in your body and clinical studies show that it reduces the amount of fat in the treated area by approximately 20 – 25%.
It should be noted that once a fat cell is eliminated from the body it is eliminated permanently, because the body does not produce new fat cells. When a person loses or gains fat, (say by dieting, exercise or overeating), the number of fat cells doesn’t change, just the size of the existing fat cells change. (Paul Flashner, MD, Boston Physician)
Wonderful Question!
Fat cells that are frozen during the CoolSculpting procedure gradually die off and leave the body through the body’s natural elimination process. Giving you long-term results! The fat is gone for good! Untreated areas will have no change in fat cell distribution. (Pushpendra Jain, MD, Cookeville Physician)
Fat cell death
Coolsculpting results in the natural death of about 20% of the fat cells in the area treated. The cell components are disposed of in a natural way by your body’s mechanisms. Since human beings do not produce more fat cells after adolescence, the number of fat cells in the treated area is reduced–and, by extension–the total number of fat cells in your body is reduced.
When we gain and lose weight, we increase or decreased the size of the fat cells that we have. Our coolsculpting practice weighs patients before treatments and on follow up. Your results after coolsculpting will be much better if you maintain your weight or lose weight. (Harold L. Kent, MD, Brunswick Physician)
Coolsculpting permanently kills fat cells, so that you have less fat cells for the rest of your life. (Sacha Obaid, MD, Dallas Plastic Surgeon)
Coolsculpting does get rid of fat cells. The fat cells cannot survive under the cold temperatures, so they are undergo cell death, and the body naturally eliminates them. (Janet Allenby, DO, Delray Beach Dermatologic Surgeon)
Coolsculpting or cryolipolysis is a technique where 20-25% of fat cells are permanently eliminated from the area treated with each application. Once those fat cells are removed the remaining fat cells will get bigger or smaller as one gains or looses weight.
Its a great technology to get rid of stubborn fat that doesn’t go with exercise and diet. (Ramandeep Sidhu, MD, Issaquah Vascular Surgeon)
Does Coolsculpting change the amount of fat cells on your body?
Coolsculpting does in fact reduce fat cells. The freezing process kills the fat cells targeted by the applicator, and your body then eliminates them permanently. Your existing fat cells do have the potential to grow in size as result of weight gain, however the fat cells destroyed during your coolsculpting procedure are gone for good. (Philip Solomon, MD, FRCS, Toronto Facial Plastic Surgeon)
