Melasma is a very tricky skin condition that tends to hyper-react to laser and light. Although the Clear and Brilliant laser (particularly the 1927 nm Permea Handpiece) can be recommended for Epidermal Melasma, the risk of worsening is still there.

Hi sitadeo, thanks for the great question. This subject happens to be a passion of mine as I’ve devoted most of my career trying to understand the way light, laser and energy based systems react with darker skin types.

Hi Venus29, you have raised a terrific point and dilemma. As a general rule, anytime you experience an adverse reaction from a treatment, I would recommend going back immediately to the treating clinician in order to start proper wound care so that the area heals perfectly. At that point, one should also investigate why this reaction occurred (new medications or inadvertent sun exposure vs aggressive settings etc).
