So Far Have Had 6 IPL Treatments to Treat Rosacea Sunburn-like Diffuse Redness, Hasn’t Helped, What
IPL works for redness, flushing and blushing in Rosacea
Jan 8, 2012
Redness, flushing and blushing from Rosacea is a frustrating problem that people who have never had it don't often understand. We usually have very good results with a series of Quantum IPL treatments, you can see one at the link below. Treatment should be done by a physician experienced in IPL treatments for this difficult problem. Topical or oral treatments don't reduce the overall redness, flushing or blushing in Rosacea. They do help with red bumps, pus bumps and the overall skin…
Does Zeltiq Tighten the Skin While Reducing the Fat?
Skin tightens after Zeltiq CoolSculpting if it has good elasticity
Jan 8, 2012
CoolSculpting itself doesn't tighten skin, but if you have good skin elasticity the skin shrinks and tightens as the fat is slowly processed out of the body over a 4 month period of time.
Other Than Volume, What Are the Benefits of Facial Enhancement Using Sculptra?
Sculptra restores youthful shape, improves texture, helps results with other cosmetic treatments
Sep 2, 2011
Sculptra is a biostimulatory filler, which means that it helps your body make its own collagen. Results appear gradually over 6 months, and last for at least 24 months. By putting your cells into a “happy, more youthful” state, you will respond better to other cosmetic treatments such as laser resurfacing, skin tightening, and intense pulsed light photorejuvenation. It can also improve texture, fine lines, pore size and pigmentation on its own. We do Sculptra as part of an…
Why at 50 is my Face Breaking out
Acne at 50? Life really is unfair sometimes, isn’t it?
May 12, 2011
Hi Mrs Mac.  Frequently I see women aged 20-55 with breakouts continuing well into middle years, starting again after a period of clear skin, or first occurring in the 30’s and 40’s. Often these same women are starting to see signs of aging and say  "Seriously, this is ridiculous–wrinkles and acne?"

Acne in adult women is strongly hormonal, combined with an inherited tendency and additional triggers of stress, heat, sweat and cosmetics which plug pores…

I Used Tazorac Cream and Had my Face Waxed
What to do about skin ripped off after waxing
Mar 26, 2011
Sorry to hear about your problem. It is actually fairly common.

We have information for our patients on our skin care usage instructions: “Discontinue the retinoids: Refissa, Renova, Retin-A, Differin, or Tazorac to affected area 1 week before waxing or bleaching, or before other procedures as directed.”

Why do we say this? Because if you don’t discontinue them and then you wax, when they pull the wax off, your skin will come off with it. This will also happen if…

Will Cool Sculpting (Zeltiq) Address Skin Laxity?
Skin with good elasticity will tighten after Coolsculpting
Mar 22, 2011
Coolsculpting is targeted to reduce fat not affect the top layer of skin which is where much of the natural elasticity of the skin resides. Because the results are seen over a 4 month period, patients with good skin elasticity will often see the skin contract as the fat is slowly lost. Patients who have pre-existing skin looseness (laxity) usually will not see the skin tighten as the fat is lost, because the elasticity is already lost.

Just like when you take off a bra, the elastic band…

When Should Swelling Dissipate After IPL?
Prevent and reduce swelling under the eyes after IPL
Mar 21, 2011
Some patients do experience more swelling under the eyes after IPL. I am one of them. It seems to happen more frequently in patients with diffuse redness pre-treatment more than in those with mainly brown spots or larger veins. It is also more common in patients with thin skin, or those who have been on tretinoin. Usually it resolves in 3-5 days, but rarely I have seen it last as long as 7-10 days.

For those patients who are more prone to swelling, and for myself, we have found that…

Cost to Dissolve Juvederm Same As Juvederm Injections?
Cost to Dissolve Juvederm–Free or Less than Juvederm Injections
Feb 18, 2011
Hyaluronidase dissolves hyaluronic acid fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Perlane) and can be very useful if an area needs to be reduced.

Very occasionally I need to reduce an area or a small bump from an area I have injected with Juvederm. In that case I do not charge the patient  and treat them for free as I consider this part of the original treatment.

I do have patients who come in after being treated elsewhere and request that I dissolve an area. They do not have the…

How Can I Prevent Bruising from Restylane or Juvederm?
Reduce bruising after Juvederm, Restylane, Sculptra, Radiesse
Feb 1, 2011
Bruising after dermal fillers is more common in some people than others. You can do things to reduce the bruising. In my practice we give patients the following instructions.

BEFORE TREATMENT TO REDUCE BRUISING FROM DERMAL FILLER

For one week before, avoid aspirin, NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin, etc.), St. John’s Wort, Vitamin E, Multivitamins (often contain Vitamin E), Fish Oils, Flaxseed Oils, Omega-3, Gingko, Ginseng, Garlic and Glucosamine.

Go to store…

Zeltiq CoolSculpting – Pain, Bruising, Risks?
Discomfort only for the first few minutes with Zeltiq Coolsculpting
Jan 13, 2011
With Zeltiq Coolsculpting patients feel a firm compression and suction sensation to the bulge of fat that is being treated. Patients feel the sensation for the first 8 minutes or so of the treatment, then the discomfort greatly subsides. The sensation is certainly tolerable, especially since you know it will only last for a few minutes. Based both on personal experience and those of our patients, the larger attachment is more uncomfortable for those first 8 minutes than the small…
What Makes People Look Old(er) When We Don’t Have Wrinkles or Sagging?
Poor skin quality also makes you look older
Jan 7, 2011
I agree completely with the answers below about loss of bony structure and underlying tissue support. Another issue that contributes to the appearance of aging is the quality of the skin itself.

When you look at a child's skin you see smooth, plump skin without wrinkles, bumps, spots, scars. The pores are small, almost invisible. Over time, with continued sun exposure, gravity, repetitive muscle action, smoking, environmental toxins, glycemic diet, weight fluctuations and hormonal…
