Can I Inject Botox if I'm Allergic to Penicillin and Erythromicyn?
Can I Inject Botox if I'm Allergic to Penicillin and Erythromicyn?
Apr 2, 2013
There is no problem injecting Botox in patients with these allergies. Thankfully allergic reactions to Botox are rare. The product does contain albumin which some patients may be allergic to. These patients should discuss this with their physician prior to treatment.
Why Inject Botox/Dysport Above Brows for Frown Lines?
Why Inject Botox/Dysport Above Brows for Frown Lines?
Apr 2, 2013
The corrugator muscles which are responsible for frown lines are located just above and between the eyebrows. If you watch yourself frown in the mirror, you can see the muscles pushing in from above the brow toward the middle creating a furrow(s). The Botox or Dysport is injected into the muscle where contraction occurs causing relaxation resulting in improvement or disappearance of frown lines.
Best Way to Care for Skin During Tretinion Peeling?
Best Way to Care for Skin During Tretinion Peeling?
Apr 2, 2013
One of the main side effects when starting to use Retin-A/tretinoin is a dry peeling reaction. This can be minimized by starting with a lower concentration such as .025% and even mixing it with your moisturizer for the first few weeks. I also recommend using it every other night for the first few weeks to let your skin adjust to it easier. A mild cleanser such as Cetaphil or Cerave also helps diminish peeling and irritation. Don't forget to use a daily sunscreen while using tretinoin which...
Has Anyone Ever Seen a Major Cold Sore Outbreak with Fraxel Dual?
Has Anyone Ever Seen a Major Cold Sore Outbreak with Fraxel Dual?
Apr 2, 2013
Any procedure that produces inflammation and peeling on the face, especially around the mouth, may trigger an outbreak of fever blisters. This happens more often in patients with a previous history of fever blisters/cold sores. It can occur with chemical peels and any of the Fraxel laser procedures. Outbreaks can easily be prevented by taking an antiviral agent such as acyclovir or valacyclovir a few days ahead and continuing a few days after the procedure until the skin is completely...
Why Does My Neck Look Worse After My First Treatment of Fraxel Yesterday?
Why Does My Neck Look Worse After My First Treatment of Fraxel Yesterday?
Mar 18, 2013
As with many procedures, the treated area often looks worse before it looks better. The treated area is often red and swollen. Brown sun freckles in the treated ares may look darker, before they flake off. The texture of the skin may feel like sandpaper for several 7-10 days. Not to worry, after a treatment series patients are generally pleased with the improvement of the texture, color and overall appearance of the treated area(s).

Treatment to Even out Pinkness/redness After Laser Resurfacing?
Treatment to Even out Pinkness/redness After Laser Resurfacing?
Mar 18, 2013
Redness or erythema is very common after laser resurfacing and fades slowly over time. Depending on the depth of the procedure, redness duration will vary. The deeper the procedure, the longer the redness takes to resolve, but generally the more dramatic the result. Tincture of time is the best way to resolve the issue. Aggressive sun protection during this time is crucial to optimize healing. If the redness persists past several months, IPL or intensed pulse light treatments may be an...
Q-switched Laser After Peel?
Q-switched Laser After Peel?
Mar 18, 2013
Q-switched lasers are very effective at removing sun freckles and other forms of brown pigmentation. It is important that all wound healing be complete after a peel before proceeding with a laser procedure. I would recommend at least a week after a light chemical peel. Deeper peels with longer peeling times may require a longer time between procedures.

For CoolSculpting, what are the risks associated and who should perform?
For CoolSculpting, what are the risks associated and who should perform?
Mar 18, 2013
While CoolSculpting is a very safe procedure, it is important to have the procedure done by an experienced practice. Patients who have had previous hernia surgery where mesh was placed to prevent recurrrence of the hernia may not undergo the procedure. There are a few rare hereditary conditions where patients may experience problems related to cold exposure. At the time of consultation all of these issues should be addressed, in addition to a physical exam to evaluate the possible areas to...
Are Fillers Or Botox Best for Fine Lines Under the Eyes?
Are Fillers or Botox Best for Fine Lines Under the Eyes?
Mar 18, 2013
Fine lines under the eyes are due to repeated muscular action of both muscles around the eye as well as the cheek, in addition to thinning of the skin that comes with age. Botox can help reduce the appearance of fine lines by relaxing the muscles around the eye giving a smoother appearance. Fillers can improve hollowness under the eyes also known as a "tear trough". If wrinkles are really deep a resurfacing procedure such as Fraxel may be recommended for maximum improvement.

Thermage for Upper Arm Flappiness?
Thermage for upper arm "flappiness"
Oct 12, 2011
In my experience, Thermage can help with the loose, crepey skin that often occurs on the arms as well as the knees. I have found it to be very impressive in treating the flappiness (bat wings) that you describe. Surgery is an option, but there is often a prominent scar after an arm lift procedure.
Myth or Fact: Do Chemical Peels Stimulate Collagen Production?
Chemical Peels - Collagen growth and acne scars
Oct 12, 2011
Yes, chemical peels do stimulate superficial collagen production; however, to treat acne scars, most chemical peels do not go deep enough in the skin to affect them. There is no ideal treatment to date that is perfect for enlarged pores. In my experience, the Fraxel systems of lasers are the best available modalities at this time for improving scars as well as reducing pore size.
Is Botox for the eyelid a good or bad idea?
Botox and Eyelid Drooping
Oct 12, 2011
The possibility of an eyelid drooping after Botox is extremely rare (1%) if you go to an experienced injector. This occurs when treatment is done for the frown lines. This is not a risk when treating the crow's feet area.
Can I Use Zeltiq if I'm Thinking of Doing IVF in the Next Couple of Months?
Zeltiq - CoolSculpting and IVF
Oct 12, 2011
I don't know of any reason you couldn't do it before starting IVF. If there will be injections for IVF in the area to be treated, I would recommend doing the Zeltiq first. When in doubt, verify with your gynecologist.
How Much Longer Than Botox Injections Does a Dysport Procedure for Crow's Feet Last?
Botox vs Dysport and duration
Oct 11, 2011
The national average for both Botox and Dysport is about 4 months. This will of course vary among patients as well as the treated area.
