Zeltiq just received FDA approval for CoolSculpting of the outer thigh with the new CoolSmooth hanpiece!
Until just a few months ago, the answer would have been, no. CoolSculpting doesn’t work well on the outer thigh because the tissue is more fibrous so its more difficult to pinch it which is a requirement for the tissue to be drawn into the older hand pieces via suction.
The new CoolSmooth hand piece is a flat applicator applied to the outer thigh that doesn’t work via suction. It is a much larger hand piece and can treat a greater surface area. A single treatment cycle takes 2 hours.
We are finding that this new applicator can also be used off label in other areas such thinner abdomens where fat can’t be pinched for an even more sculpted look- not possible with the traditional hand pieces.
