A Device For Cheek Fat Melting

The best candidates have noticeable bulges under the neck area – the double chin.
It is a good alternative to liposuction surgery as this area will not be eliminated with diet and exercise. (Hardik Soni, MD, Summit Emergency Medicine Physician)

No CoolSculpting on the face

There is still no device to reduce fat on the face. Deoxycholine is undergoing clinical trials, and when FDA-approved, will be available to treat small areas such as under the chin, but most would agree that removing fat from the face may not result in a natural-looking appearance. (Sheryl D. Clark, MD, New York Dermatologist)

CoolSculpting not ideal for cheek fat

The hand pieces on the CoolSculpt machine are much too large and are not indicated for treating the cheeks. It is indicated for larger areas such as the abdomen, flanks, back, thighs, and sometimes the arms. (Steven H. Williams, MD, San Francisco Plastic Surgeon)

Fat in the face is good

Studies have shown that fat in the face gives a more youthful appearance. Removing fat is generally not indicated in the face. It is often the repositioning of the fat that is more important. Coolsculpting nonetheless is not the proper way to reduce this fat. (Eric Chang, MD, Baltimore Plastic Surgeon)

Removing Fat in Face

Unfortunately, at this time, there is no handpiece that would be able to fit the face/ neck area. The company is working on other handpieces so they may come out in the future. (Tom J. Pousti, MD, FACS, San Diego Plastic Surgeon)

CoolSculpting is not indicated to reduce cheek fat

The applicators available currently for CoolSculpting are not suitable to be placed on the cheek to reduce fat in the cheek. Some people think they have fat cheeks but they have an enlarged chewing muscle, the masseter.

CoolMini Enables Us To Treat Smaller Areas

Masseteric hypertrophy can be treated with Botox. If it is a cheek fat pad you do have, please realize that many patients who had these removed years ago to create higher cheekbones are now getting fat injections to rebuild their sunken in cheeks as it makes them look older to be concave. (Ronald Shelton, MD, Manhattan Dermatologic Surgeon)

Coolsculpting can be used to help eliminate the fat from the abdomen, hips, and back. Unfortunately, it cannot be used to treat cheek fat. (Jeffrey E. Schreiber, MD, FACS, Baltimore Plastic Surgeon)

CoolSculpting Does Not Work for Cheek Fat

Unfortunately, coolsculpting can’t be used in the management of cheek fat for several reasons. The primary reason is the lack of an available hand piece for this type of procedure. In addition, removal of the cheek fat can result in hollowing of the cheeks, which can be very unattractive.

Cooling Technology Freezes The Targeted Areas Of Fat

If you have concerns about facial aesthetics, consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon would be appropriate. Although coolsculpting may not be an option, a variety of options exist to treat and optimize facial aesthetics. (Richard J. Bruneteau, MD, Omaha Plastic Surgeon)

CoolSculpting Not For The Face

CoolSculpt is great for the following areas: love handles (muffin tops), spare tires (abdominal fat), and bra fat (back fat). Newer applications are on the way for the arms and neck, but it is not to be used on the face. (Daniel Shapiro, MD, Scottsdale Plastic Surgeon)

Cheek Fat Keeps You Looking Youthful

While the CoolMini applicator from Zeltiq can be used to freeze and eliminate fat from smaller areas, such as double chins and bra bulges, it is not recommended to remove fat from the face. Generally, facial fat actually keeps you looking young, as full cheeks are associated with youth.

Get Rid Of Extra Cheek Fat

If you are bothered by how heavy your cheeks are, you may need to have a jowl lift. The only way to get the answers you need is to meet with a board-certified dermatologist. (William Groff, DO, San Diego Dermatologist)

Coolsculpting cannot be used on cheek fat but will soon be used under the chin

Coolsculpting cannot currently be used for cheek fat but they are currently working on an adaptor for submental fat – the fan under the chin. When this device becomes available there may be other methods to help address these facial areas. (Michele S. Green, MD, New York Dermatologist)

Coolsculpting does not have a face application at this point. I would recommend that you visit with a board certified plastic surgeon in your area to discuss options to help you with your concern. (Young R. Cho, MD, PhD, Houston Plastic Surgeon)

COOLSCULPTING FOR LARGE AREAS ONLY

Currently, the Coolsculpting procedure is designed only for large areas such as the abdomen, flanks, and back. The applicators or the handpieces will only fit these areas.

In any case, if you are concerned about fat at around the lower cheek region, a relatively quick procedure is “buccal fat removal.” Buccal fat removal is a surgical procedure that excise the fat from the lower cheek region.

The incision will be placed inside the mouth. The benefit is that the result is quick as oppose to Coolsculpting which theoretically takes 2-3 months to see a 25% reduction in fat. (Steve Lee, MD, New York Plastic Surgeon)

Coolsculpting for Fat Reduction

Coolsculpting currently is only used for body fat reduction. The current handpieces are too large to work on facial fat including cheeks and chins. You have to be able to grab at least 2 inches of fat (a handful) in order for the procedure to be effective. (Grant Stevens, MD, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon)

Currently, coolsculpting is only being used for the body. The hand pieces are the determining factor on where the procedure can be performed. The hand pieces are not meant to be used on the face. (Steven Hacker, MD, West Palm Beach Dermatologic Surgeon)

CoolSculpting for fat removal on the face.

CoolSculpting for fat removal on the face is not available at this time. The company is supposedly working on new smaller applicators that can remove fat non invasively in other parts if the body like the neck.

It is not known if an applicator for the face will also be developed. (Leyda Elizabeth Bowes, MD (not practicing), Miami Dermatologic Surgeon)
