Can Coolsculpting Be Done On Double Chin?
CoolMini is effective in reducing fat under the chin
The CoolMini has been successful in my practice in reducing the fat under the chin. Results are improved whenever the skin tone is good–hence, an in person examination is important in setting expectations before proceeding.
Typical treatment takes an hour. Advanced techniques can treat the sides with a slight overlap in the center. Be sure to seek a provider that has undergone the advanced training from Coolsculpting University. Other options to liposuction include Kybella injections and the Profound radiofrequency microneedling device. (Vaishali B. Doolabh, MD, FACS, Jacksonville Plastic Surgeon)
Double Chin Treatments
Coolsculpting with the CoolMini can be an effective way to reduce unwanted submental fat and improve your profile. When treating the “double chin,” the CoolMini offers a relatively painless and minimally invasive option with results achieved in 1-2 treatments.
One benefit of choosing Coolsculpting is the limited down time. After a treatment, you can expect to be pink or red for about 20 min with mild swelling present for hours to days. Many patients return to work the day after treatment.
The limitation of Coolsculpting happens to be the size of the applicator. The CoolMini attachment is only available in one size, so depending on one’s neck anatomy, the CoolMini may or may not be a good fit.
In addition to CoolSculpting and liposuction, Kybella offers another option. Kybella is the first and only injectable product for treatment of submental fullness.
Kybella works by destroying a portion of the excess fat cells in the neck, allowing us to create an improved contour.
Most patients can expect an improved chin profile in 2-4 treatment sessions spaced about a month apart. The benefit of Kybella is how customizable it is. The injector can map out a treatment area to fit your specific anatomy/needs.
The down side of Kybella can be the post-treatment swelling. Many patients develop significant swelling and require a few days before being considered socially presentable.
There are precautions we take in our practice to reduce swelling, including pre- and post-treatment ice, the injection technique, and the wearing of an elastic chin/neck wrap after treatment.
Liposuction of the neck, Kybella, and Coolsculpting can all achieve good results. It would be beneficial to consult with a board certified facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon offering all three treatments, to determine the optimal treatment for you. (Umang Mehta, MD, Bay Area Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Does CoolMini Work?
CoolMini absolutely works to reduce double chin fat, and most people with realistic expectations are pleased with the treatment. However, 2-3 treatments are needed and it does not really improve any loose skin.
The double chin is often a combination of fat and loose skin. If you are looking for a treatment that can address both fat and loose skin without surgery then I would recommend ThermiTight. It is an excellent treatment, and for most people only one treatment is needed.
We offer both treatments and often combine them for optimal results. Please find an experienced provider who offers different options for treatment of the area. (Michael A. Zadeh, MD, FACS, Sherman Oaks General Surgeon)
Double chin treatment
CoolMini is a great treatment for the submental area. Other options are Kybella, liposuction, Thermitight, and Infini. I would discuss with your provider to get the best option for you. (Steven F. Weiner, MD, Panama City Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Coolmini does work to treat the double chin but often needs multiple treatments and cannot give you contouring. Kybella is FDA approved for the submental (chin) area. Honestly, liposuction/contouring of this area gives amazing results with only a few days downtime.
That is the best treatment option when combined with botox and thermage/ultherapy/venus legacy to get a defined jawline/neck, if you’re a candidate. (Jason Emer, MD, Los Angeles Dermatologic Surgeon)
CoolMini would be such a great option for you! I have treated many patients that have that stubborn fat deposit underneath their chin using CoolMini and have had amazing results. Patients feel much more confident with minimal downtime! The other alternative is Kybella.
I would always recommend consulting with a doctor to find the best option for your needs. (Melanie L. Petro, MD, Birmingham Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Treating Double Chins
CoolSculpting and Kybella are two safe non surgical alternatives to reducing double chins. Both are FDA cleared to treat submental (double chin) fat. At this point the jury is out as to which one is more efficacious so it becomes a matter of patient and physician preference.
The CoolMini applicator (CoolSculpting) was specifically designed to treat submental fat but is limited if the patient is too narrow and proper suction cannot be achieved. This is necessary for the fat to be drawn up inside the applicator.
Kybella is a medication that must be injected properly in order to avoid any temporary nerve damage but if the proper injection pattern is followed this is avoidable.
In my experience Kybella does produce somewhat more swelling and discomfort post treatment than CoolSculpting but not enough that would cause me to always recommend CoolSculpting over Kybella. I believe you would benefit from either procedure. (Ted Brezel, MD, Long Island Dermatologic Surgeon)
CoolSculpting for under the chin
The CoolMini applicator works very nicely in patients who have some fat excess under the chin. Usually one, but sometimes 2 treatments are needed to take care of this but I think you would find an excellent result from getting CoolSculpting. (Adam David Lowenstein, MD, FACS, Santa Barbara Plastic Surgeon)
We have had excellent success with coolsculpting in our practice when used for the body. The trick to the coolmini is selecting the right patient. When we do we see good results.
If we don’t feel that patients are a good match for the mini, I usually do in office liposuction of the area which is always very effective. (Guy Cappuccino, MD, Mount Airy Plastic Surgeon)
there are other options non surgical
- you can use belkyra injection to dissolve the fat
- you could do surgical liposuction which is surgery
- cool sculpting under the chin works very well
you need a plastic surgeon evaluation to decide the best approach for optimal results. (Kimit Rai, MD, FRCS(C), Surrey Plastic Surgeon)
Cool Mini for the double chin – a good options for many patients
The neck/jawline can be treated with Cool Mini. Most of my patients are very happy with the result. The other good option for this area is Kybella, which is an injectable medicine that targets fat.
To get the best results, I usually recommend 2 or 3 treatments regardless of the technique you decide to go with. (Jill C. Fichtel, MD, Columbus Dermatologic Surgeon)
Sub mental CS Mini
The CS mini works great for fatty tissue beneath the chin. Skin laxity might be an issue. Kybella and liposuction are alternatives to consider. (Paul Buhrer, MD, Annapolis Plastic Surgeon)
