CoolSculpting is a much better option than Zerona. It has proven results in terms of fat reduction. Additionally, there is minimal to no downtime typically after the treatment. (Daniel Shapiro, MD, Scottsdale Plastic Surgeon)
In our experience, results after Zerona with dieting and supplements were sporadic, but after coolsculpting alone they are reliably positive.
Plastic surgeons will usually recommend liposuction, but if you don’t want to go through surgery Zeltiq coolsculpting is the best option.
I have no reason to think that the results will be any more “temporary” than liposuction. (Peter Cooperrider, MD (retired), Kirkland Dermatologist)
Though they were approved at around the same time there are distinct differences between Zeltiq Coolsculpting and Zerona.
Zeltiq targets specific areas of fat that patients are unhappy with by freezing and killing those fat cells(actually a portion of them) and then they are eliminated by the body.
There is no diet or exercise regimen indicated with Zeltiq but it is recommended who are relatively stable in their weight already. The Zerona uses low level laser, in conjunction with the encouragement of a diet and exercise regimen to stimulate overall (throughout the entire body) circumferential decrease in size due to the ’emptying’ of fat cells.
So far, in our practice (we have both technologies), we have found the Zeltiq to be the most satisfying for patients and have seen some amazing improvements in stubborn areas like the belly, love handles, flanks, bra fat, etc.
If you research on RealSelf site you will see the Zerona is ONLY at a 30% approval vs the Zeltiq has a 80% approval. In my opinion based ONLY upon those #’s I would use the Zeltiq.
In my practice experience I’m hearing that even the Zeltiq or CollSculpting has a higher unhappy rate. Remember non invasive therapiesa have strict limitations in realistic results. And they cost quite a bit up to $3 to $6K.
Take months to achieve any result. Vs the Laser Lipos like Smart Lipo TRIPLEX one operation in over 98%, immediate results at the same fees in general. You decide. (Darryl J. Blinski, MD, Miami Plastic Surgeon)
If you have specific areas to target, Zeltiq is great! (Grant Stevens, MD, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon)
I think the important thing to realize is the way the two treatments work and how long the results last.
Coolsculpting is FDA approved for permanent fat reduction with no change in diet. Zerona uses low level laser energy to temporarily cause the fat cells to leak fat.
However, Zerona’s claim to improvement also states you need to follow their diet restrictions and dietary supplements that you have to purchase separately. (Grace Liu, MD, Newport Beach Dermatologic Surgeon)
Zeltiq vs Zerona
CoolSculpting from Zeltiq has indeed been tested and proven to work. Zerona, not so much. Zerona doesn’t permanently damage the fat cell–it just induces the fat cell to release its contents. So the fat cell is just waiting for you to eat your next french fry and fill up again.
CoolSculpting destroys the fat celll, so it doesn’t exist anymore. (Carmen Kavali, MD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
Coolsculpting versus Zerona
Different technologies : Coolsculpting actually freezes the tissue and works to reduce fat by killing fat cells on average by 20-25% whereas Zerona uses cold laser to emulsify fat. My concern with Zerona is they combine it with diet and exercise that must be used to achieve results.
Coolsculpting works excellent and requires no diet and no exercise. (Steven Hacker, MD, West Palm Beach Dermatologic Surgeon)
Coolscuplting is superior to Zerona
Coolscuplting by Zeltiq is far superior to Zerona. Coolsculpting was developed by a Harvard trained dermatologist based on the principle of popsicle panniculitis. The fat is actually frozen with coolscuplting by Zeltiq and hence destroyed.
With Zerona the fat is not destroyed and it is not as effective as Zeltiq. I have had so many happy patients with Zeltiq because of great technique, patient selection, and technology. The results speak for themselves. (Michele S. Green, MD, New York Dermatologist)
Coolsculpting vs. Zerona
I would suggest that you be examined in person by someone who performs these procedures to see if you would be a good candidate for one or both. The difference is that Coolsculpting freezes the fat cells and body gets rid of them vs.
Zerona cold laser emulsifies the fat. The biggest catch is the diet that you have to purchase separately when having Zerona to get the best results. Coolsculpting procedure does not require any specific diet afterwards. (Tom J. Pousti, MD, FACS, San Diego Plastic Surgeon)
CoolSculpting or Zerona
Zerona does not claim to kill the fat cells so the cells that have lost some fat can regain the fat easily. CoolSculpting freezes and kills the fat cells so the results may be more long term.
In both treatments, the residual fat cells can gain fat if one eats more and/or exercises less, so maintain a good exercise and diet plan for both treatments. (Ronald Shelton, MD, Manhattan Dermatologic Surgeon)
