CoolSculpting has handpieces designed for various shapes.
The choice of handpiece in treating any area, including the abdomen will depend on the individual contours of the person.
Your physician will assess the areas of greatest fat and recommend the single large handpiece if the your hips are wide enough and the fat is central.
If you have narrow hips the smaller hand piece may be the right fit. If, as many men and women do, you have two areas of fat with a thinner area just below the belly button you may do best with two small handpieces one on either side of the tummy. As you can tell, the body tells us the right fit. (Susan Van Dyke, MD, Paradise Valley Dermatologic Surgeon)
From having done hundreds of consults, it is always surprising to me how different each person’s distribution of fat is! It is really important to have a consult prior to treatment and to be measured out with the template to see first if the area is a good canidate, and second which applicator would give you the best treatment.
I always tell patients that with the template I can see whether the fat can be sucked into the applicator. The more fat that can be sucked in, the better the result. It is best for you to have an accurate assessment with the template by an experienced practitioner! (Grace Liu, MD, Newport Beach Dermatologic Surgeon)
CoolSculpting for the Stomach Fat
The beauty of CoolSculpting is that there are several handpieces with different treatment areas to allow for individualization of the treatment. The large 8 applicator is most commonly used in the low abdomen.
It covers 2.5 x the area of the smaller 6.2 or 6.3 applicators, but each persons fat and tissues are different. So it is important to have a consultation with a provider who can determine the best treatment plan for your individual needs. (Kent V. Hasen, MD, Naples Plastic Surgeon)
Zeltiq- large vs medium (small) applicator
As with most procedures, it’s difficult if not impossible to decide the best course of treatment without seeing you first. Most of our patients that are candidates for either choose the large applicator. The large (8) is actually 2.5 times the size of the smaller applicator (6). Not only does doing the large cut down time but it does also treat more area/fat. It can be more uncomfortable for patients during treatment and after as well.
If a patient knows they are particularly sensitive they may opt for 2 of the smaller applicators but, for most, they would rather have the potential for slightly more discomfort and get done faster and treat more fat in one session. (Grant Stevens, MD, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon)
Coolsculpting for the lower abdomen
Each patient requires an assessment to determine the locality and size of their fat bulge. Whenever possible and appropriate I would recommend using the larger size 8 hand piece because it cuts the amount of time for treatment in half as two smaller handpieces typically equal one large handpiece in terms of area treated.
The results are excellent with both. (Steven Hacker, MD, West Palm Beach Dermatologic Surgeon)
Both the larger and smaller handpieces for the Zeltiq often provide excellent results. The advantage of using the larger handpiece is that the treatment lasts for a shorter period of time. Many patients however, complain that the larger handpiece is more uncomfortable.
In the majority of my patients, I recommend treating the lower abdomen with 2 smaller applications. (Pamela Norden, MD, MBA, Wellesley Dermatologic Surgeon)
How many CoolSculpting applicators can be applied at once?
It is perfectly safe to have multiple different areas treated with CoolSculpting at the same treatment session. Some patients would rather have all areas treated the same day while others may want to split it into different days.
If the office you are going to for your CoolSculpting has one device, only one applicator will be placed at a time. If the office has more than one device, then you could have more than one applicator placed at the exact same time. (Michael I. Echavez, MD, San Francisco Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Coolsculpting is a safe procedure to do no matter how many applicators during your treatment. We have the newest applicators (35 minutes) and two machines so that we can cut treatment times in half. (Jeffrey B. Wise, MD, FACS, Wayne Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Coolsculpting how many areas at once
it depends on how many machines the physician has to perform the procedure and the positioning of the patient. Usually one to two applicators are applied at one time.
You can do as many areas on one day as the patient can tolerate. We usually limit our treatments to 4 hours per session for patient comfort. (Jean M. Casello, MD, Northborough Physician)
Coolsculpting treatment times
It is safe to have multiple areas treated in one session. The number of areas that can be treated is dependent of the number of treatment head within the office. There is usually one head per machine and each and it usually takes one hour per treatment application of each head (newer models require only 35 minutes per application.
For patient comfort, we usually do not extend the treatment beyond 4 hours in one patient visit but it is safe to do so. (Jack Berdy, MD, New York Physician)
