No Specific Preparation to do Before a Coolsculpting Procedure
No Specific Preparation needs to be done Before a Coolsculpting Procedure. No specific dietary regimen or exercise may be followed.
Avoiding aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen and other ‘non steroidal anti-inflammatory’ pills may be helpful to minimize bruising from the suction of the CoolSculpting applicator, but since there is no cutting or injections involved in this procedure, this may a consideration before treatment, but would not preclude it. (Leyda Elizabeth Bowes, MD (not practicing), Miami Dermatologic Surgeon)
Preparations for CoolSculpt
We do not have any specials preparations for patients undergoing CoolSculpting, other than:
1. The patient is confirmed as a good candidate for the procedure -The best are the those that are at, or close to, their ideal weight but have small bulges of fat.
2. The patient has realistic expectations regarding possible results and knows the potential side effects.
You wouldn’t want to be sunburned, but there is no reason not to tan prior to the procedure.
Arnica and Advil (& other NSAID’s) can act as blood thinning agents and cause more bruising. (Steven Gabel, MD, FACS, Portland Hair Restoration Surgeon)
Pre and Post CoolSculpting care
CoolSculpting (CS) is now a tried and true method for very limited fat loss in areas of fatty bulges.
Consider that the fat is gone but you will have to maintain the new weight. This means a lifestyle change in your nutrition and / or calorie reduction and exercise.
Since CS removes up to 20% of fat in a well executed procedure, depending on the small (approximately 100 grams) or large (approximately 200 grams) of fat are lost. There are about 454 grams of fat to the pound, so you can easily figure how much you have to lose on the scale before the fat will redistribute to other living fat cells.
Unfortunately, CS does not tighten the overlying skin but I, as many others do observe that the skin will shrink down to the less fatty bulge. As more technology develops, skin tightening will also help. (Dean P. Kane, MD, FACS, Baltimore Plastic Surgeon)
Preparation for Coolsculpting
It is ideal to be close to your goal weight both before and after your Coolsculpting procedure. (Most certainly after)
Though a certain portion of the fat in a given area is treated and there is volume loss and contour change, that can change back if you don’t maintain your weight after the procedure.
Weight gain has to go somewhere. Prior to the procedure, if you are trying to minimize any potential bruising, it would helpful to avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, aleve, fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo and alcohol. (Grant Stevens, MD, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon)
No necessary preparation
There isn’t any preparation necessary for having the CoolSculpting procedure, you should just have an inch to a softball size of fat to pinch.
The areas that can be treated include; abdomen, flanks, arms, buttock crease, medial thighs, back and male gynecomastia.
You have an opportunity to lose about 20-40% in fat reduction of the area that has the procedure.
The best thing to do is to come in for a consultation and be evaluated for the procedure to make sure that you are a good candidate for CoolSculpting. (Joe Gryskiewicz, MD, FACS, Minneapolis Plastic Surgeon)
CoolSculpting by Zeltiq needs minimal preparation for non-invasive fat removal
You wouldn’t want to have consumed products unnecessarily, that predispose you to easy bleeding or bruising, prior to having CoolSculpting by Zeltiq for non-invasive fat reduction. Bruising can occur with the device and although this is temporary, you might wish to minimize the accentuation of the bruising tendency by avoiding aspirin, Motrin, Advil, Ibuprofen, Alleve and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, vitamin E, garlic, ginseng, ginger, ginko biloba, fish oil, alcohol, etc.
You should not have any open wounds on the surface to be treated so if you have active eczema with bleeding sores or herpes in the area, you should get those areas treated and wait for them to be resolved.
Bring comfortable loose fitting clothing that day and something to read, music, a movie, etc. (Ronald Shelton, MD, Manhattan Dermatologic Surgeon)
What preparation is needed for CoolSculpting
It’s great that you are maintaining your body weight because the ideal patient for CoolSculpting is the one who has modearte localized bulges of fat and is within 10-15 pounds of their ideal body weight.
One of the many nice things about CoolSculpting is that it is extremely well tolerated requiring no incisions, needles, anesthesia or downtime so there is nothing specific that needs to be done. There is no reason to avoid food or drink nor would I recommend that since depending upon the number of areas treated the procedure can take several hours. (Ted Brezel, MD, Long Island Dermatologic Surgeon)
