The Cool Mini applicator is great for treatment of the submentum (double chin) area. There is minimal discomfort and no downtime.
Most patients see significant results with 1-2 treatments. The prices can vary, so it is best to obtain a consultation to determine pricing and if you are a candidate for treatment. (John Diaz, MD, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)
CoolMini by Zeltiq Can “Freeze” a Double Chin
By using a patented technology called cryolipolysis(TM), the CoolMini applicator can freeze up to 20 to 30% of fat in a double chin. Freezing kills the fat cells, which are then eliminated from the body over time.
Because fat freezes at a higher temperature than does water, surrounding tissues are not affected by the treatment, making it virtually risk free. Side effects are minor and include swelling and redness, which generally resolves within a couple of hours to weeks.
The cost of CoolMini varies by each individual case as well as by provider.
Please consult with a board-certified dermatologist to find out how you can get rid of your double chin for good. (Kimberly Butterwick, MD, San Diego Dermatologic Surgeon)
CoolMini uses the same cryolipolisis “freeze the fat” technology and can treat a double chin
Yes, the FDA recently cleared a new CoolSculpting applicator called the CoolMini which is specifically designed for small areas of fat such as a double chin, the armpits, and the knees.
CoolMini uses the same cryolipolisis “freeze the fat” technology, with the same results (approximately a 20-30% reduction in fat on average after one treatment).
Cool Mini attachment for “double chin”
Coolsculpting has come out with a newer hand piece known at the cool mini that fits under the chin to treat submental fat, or the “double chin.” The treatment is 45 mins long, results are permanent and our office is charging $775 for this procedure, however we offer monthly discounts and specials. CoolSculpting For Double Chin
There is now a new applicator that can effectively treat the area under the chin. Normally 1-2 cycles are required depending on the person and each cycle is usually around $750 per cycle. Not everyone is a candidate, so it is best to have a consultation in order to determine if the treatment is right for you. (Steven H. Williams, MD, San Francisco Plastic Surgeon)
Zeltiq recently launched the CoolMini which is designed to treat the “double chin”. Patient selection is key for this process. If you have a significant amount of loose skin Coolsculpting will kill the fat and sometimes make the appearance of the skin worse.

CoolMini for Sub-mental Fat Reduction
Zeltiq now offers a FDA approved Coolsculpting applicator, the CoolMini, to treat sub-mental fat deposits. For optimal results, I suggest two treatments, set six weeks apart. Fat reductions of 20% to 25% can be achieved. For pricing and to determine if you are a candidate for the treatment, you should consult with an experienced provider in your area. (Frank P. Fechner, MD, Worcester Facial Plastic Surgeon)
The area in the upper neck, also known sometimes as the double chin, can be treated with the Coolsculpting handpiece which specifically targets fat in this region. The cost per treatment is $1000 per treatment, with most clients requiring 1 to 2 sessions to see a visible improvement. (Hardik Soni, MD (not currently practicing), Summit Emergency Medicine Physician)
Coolsculpting to chin
Coolsculpting offers the coolmini handpiece that works great for the chin area. Most patients do need to do two treatments 6 weeks apart from each other. A consultation is a great way to have a provider assess your area of stubborn fat in the chin and put a treatment plan together for you. (Renee Burke, MD, Barrington Plastic Surgeon)
CoolMini is used to treat a double chin
45 minutes per treatment
Depending on the size of the treatment area, the cost is $750 – $1000 and takes about 45 minutes per treatment. Most people only need one to two treatments. For smaller areas, we often use an injectable treatment called, Kybella.
This can be used in conjunction with Coolsculpting. If you have a lot of fat under your neck, we suggest using CoolSculpting. We often use Kybella to refine a chin after CoolSclupting has removed a notable amount of fat. (Rupa Badlani, MD, San Francisco Physician)
Treating Double Chin with the Cool-mini
Coolsculpting is an amazing fat reduction procedure that accomplishes this without surgery. It works very well for many areas of the body including the neck. The Cool-mini takes 45 minutes and is extremely safe and effective.
The cost of the Cool-mini is $1,000. We have had great success with this applicator. (Michele S. Green, MD, New York Dermatologist)
A double chin cannot be corrected with Coolsculpting….but I heard they are working on a handpiece for this area
None of the current applicator will work for the chin area. However, they are working on one. Other options are liposuction (preferably laser lipo), Infini (for smaller ones), and Kythera (not FDA approved yet). I’d wait for Kythera if I were you.
Neck/chin fat treatments
Currently there is no good applicator to treat the double chin area with Coolsculpting, but this may change in the future. There is an injectable that is anticipated to gain FDA approval in the next 1-2 years made by Kythera and is currently called ATX-101 that can non-invasively treat this area.
This product is still under investigation and not available currently. (Omar Ibrahimi, MD, PhD, Stamford Dermatologic Surgeon)
Can CoolSculpting treat a double chin?
CoolSculpting is not designed to treat fat under the neck. CoolSculpting is ideal for patients who want to remove stubborn fat deposits from areas of the body such as the abdomen, love handles, thighs, and back.
For fat removal from under the neck, a different treatment should be utilized. (Margaret Weiss, MD, Baltimore Dermatologic Surgeon)

While CoolSculpting is not now applicable to the double chin, liposuction works extremely well
At present there is no hand piece that is appropriate for the double chin. On the other hand liposuction work extremely well is the skin is not too loose. (Carl W. “Rick” Lentz III, MD, Orlando Plastic Surgeon)
