Is it safe to inject the piriformis?
Fillers are safe in the right hands.
Apr 6, 2021
The small triangular depression that occurs on either side of the nose is sometimes referred to as the pyriform space. It can deepen with age and is often an area that needs more volume for a youthful appearance.
Cautious injection into the area can be safely accomplished however I consider this an advanced injection technique because there is risk from underlying blood vessels. It is important the the injector be experienced and well versed in the anatomy of the face as well as safety...
Does unopened Kybella work even if it expired in 2017?
Expired medications need to be discarded, not used.
Dec 13, 2020
Safety and efficacy may be compromised in an expired product, particularly when there is a 3 year lapse.
I have to wonder why one would want to, I am hoping that expired medications are not being marketed.
See a qualified dermatologist for the safest and most effective treatment.
Take care and be safe!
Is the SilkPeel Dermalinfusion the same as the hydrafacial system?
Hydrafacial, Dermal Infusion, SilkPeel and Diamond Glow
Apr 22, 2020
Diamond Glow is the newest of the super hydrating facial treatments.  It has evolved from the SilkPeel and Dermal Infusion technologies and you will see the names interchanged for a while.  It has the distinct advantage of being part of the SkinMedica/Allergan family.  The great skin care advances developed by SkinMedica are now being applied to the hydrating/exfoliating facial with the ability to infuse serums deep into the skin. These SkinMedica infusions can be customized for the ind...
Is Ultherapy the answer to a paunch under my chin after a treatment that left loose, saggy skin? (ph
Skin tightening after treatment of a double chin.
Apr 22, 2020
Sometimes when fat is reduced by Kybella, CoolSculpting, liposuction or many other techniques there can be some skin looseness.  Non invasive skin tightening can be very beneficial without downtime or risks of surgery.  Results are gradual over a month or more and last for 1 to 2 years.  It is definitely a great option in this situation.
Will laser resurfacing help eliminate 11 lines?
Glabellar lines, the 11's, respond well to a variety of treatments.
Apr 9, 2020
Usually the first thing to do with the 11's is Botox or a similar neuromodulator because they reduce the movement the is the cause of the problem. If the lines are etched in, deep and longstanding, then reducing the movement may not be enough. Fillers (in expert hands) are very effective to fill in the deep glabellar lines, but Botox (or similar) is still needed to reduce the cause (the movement). Some patients prefer not to have injectables like Botox and fillers. What is the option for...
Will resurfacing create keloids?
Keloids can be a concern for cosmetic procedures
Oct 8, 2019
If you have a history of keloids then an examination by a dermatologist or plastic surgeon is advised to assess the risk prior to any cosmetic procedure including resurfacing.  Regrettably it is not possible to guide you otherwise. On a positive note, most patients I see who were told they had keloids in fact did not and went on to be successfully treated with resurfacing lasers. And to make things more interesting, resurfacing lasers, in expert hands are used to actually treat keloids! G...
Is Clear & Brilliant laser safe for dark brown skin? Does it cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentati
We love Clear and Brilliant for dark skin types!
Oct 8, 2019
One of my favorite treatments for darker skin types, prone to PIH (post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation) is Clear and Brilliant. We have over a decade of experience with this technology. Having said this the treatment alone is not the solution. One has to balance sun protection, proper skin care to reduce reactive skin, and possible prescriptives to block excess pigment.  This is a long term gentle approach, not an overnight fix. Get an experienced provider (dermatologists are trained in t...
Is Ultherapy compatible with Botox and fillers?
Ultherapy does very well with Botox and Restylane
Oct 8, 2019
We have great experience with Ultherapy combined with fillers and neuromodulators such as Botox in all ages. In fact my entire practice is devoted to injectables and non invasive aesthetic procedures so most of my patients do have overlaps.  Fifty is not too late to address the laxity that inevitably catches up with all of us. Have confidence, find a qualified experienced qualified provider and you will be pleased.
What's the best treatment to remove brown, age spots?
Multiple age spots respond well to Fraxel
Aug 29, 2019
I love non ablative fractional laser (Fraxel) for patients with multiple age spots (lentigos). I use the 1927 wavelength and results are "WOW!" with just one treatment for many patients.  Downtime is mostly redness and swelling for 3 or 4 days.  Additional treatments can be done if needed.  One of the great benefits of Fraxel is that the whole face can be treated easily and there is a significant improvement in texture, fine lines and sun damage as well as reduction in brown age spots.
What does a “high risk area” entail and what can happen?
Fillers are for Experts
Aug 20, 2019
Injecting a filler into a face may seem easy and risk free.  That is how it seems when an expert does the treatments. However, an expert has a thorough knowledge of the anatomy of the face, the potential risks and knows how to avoid them.  If a patient has an adverse event then the expert knows how to treat it.
Make sure you know the credentials and experience of the injector and discuss with them any potential risks for you.  If an injector is reluctant to do a procedure they are telling yo...
What is the most effective treatment for underarm sweating hyperhidrosis? Infini or Miradry
miraDry has become the gold standard for axillary hyperhydrosis.
Aug 16, 2019
We have treated over 250 patients with miraDry over the last few years and the satisfaction rate is very high.  Most patients obtain over 85% reduction in sweat after a single treatment. A small percent of patients will opt for a second treatment many months later.Infini (microneedle radio frequency) generally is done as 2 treatments a few weeks apart with 50 to 75% sweat reduction. miraDry is proven to reduce odor and hair as well. Both methods work, I feel that miraDry has an advantage.
I am 36 years old and have noticeable sagging skin / turkey neck. What is the best treatment for thi
Neck skin sagging responds well to Thermage.
Aug 15, 2019
Assuming the neck skin is loose, and there is no excess fat, the best approach is non invasive skin tightening especially in a 30 something.  Surgery would be too aggressive at this age.  Thermage is my go to in the younger patient.
I'm 33 what's the best facial skin tightening procedure to get so my skin is less saggy?
Thermage is great for younger patients with skin sagging!
Aug 15, 2019
I absolutely love Thermage for firming and tightening!  It is non invasive, gives just the lift needed for a 30 something with early signs of sagging.  Repeating Thermage on an annual basis is a good way to stave off the laxity that is to come. No downtime is really a plus as well.
Could someone with 24 inch waist still get CoolSculpting ?
If there is fat, CoolSculpting will help
Aug 7, 2019
Even with a tiny waist there could be excess fat.  It all will depend on a good evaluation done by a CoolSculpting expert to tell you if you are a good candidate. Results are permanent and patients are very pleased when realistic expectations are discussed and a "Treat to Complete" plan put into place.
Reconstituted Botox: Is it normally used for the frown lines and 11's?
Botox must be reconstituted to be used
Jun 20, 2019
Botox comes as a vacuum dried product in a small sterile vial.  All injectors must reconstitute (mix with liquid) in order to use the product.  The FDA gives specific guidelines on how that is done safely and effectively.  If your injector is following FDA guidelines then should get the expected great results (assuming you have an experienced and talented injector:  the hand holding the syringe is more important than any product)
