Another Botox Question: Bathing and Washing the Face the Day of Botox
your usual routine after/ before botox is probably fine
May 28, 2013
The main thing to avoid, if possible, is blood thinners before your botox treatment. Topical washes or treatments should not interfere with your botox treatment. The main issue is bruising from the treatment. This can be minimized by avoiding aspirin or pain relievers that can thin your blood, making bruising worse. Continue to take your aspirin if the doctor has told you to take aspirin for a specific condition.
I Have Recurrent Cold Sores on my Lips, just Got Outbreak After Getting my Lips Waxed, Always Show Up
Frequent Cold Sores
May 7, 2013
Ask your doctor if a low-dose daily 500mg Valtrex pill is right for you. More than 4 outbreaks of cold sores per year may be better managed with a daily dose to control symptoms. Also, be sure to use a chapstick with an SPF sun block in it. The number one trigger for cold sores is sun exposure.
Milia or Syringoma?
Syringomata
Apr 1, 2013
They appear to be syringomata and not milia. A good treatment for this is hyfrecation. Ask your dermatologist about the procedure. Also, you may do well with a laser skin resurfacing AFTER your lower eyelid surgery to tighten up the skin and even out the texture.
Anti-aging for Young Skin?
You are very healthy!
Mar 29, 2013
Sounds like you are doing a great job. In general, I recommend retin-a for patients in your situation. Retin-a can be irritating, so if you do start using it, be sure to only use it 2-3 nights/week starting out. Patients also can use over-the-counter retinol containing creams that can help have a similar effect with less irritation.
There is an old wive’s tale that says retin-a “thins your skin.” This is just not true. I would not worry about starting…
Aloe Vera Good for Small Scars and Shrink Your Pores?
I do not like aloe vera gel
Mar 21, 2013
I would avoid aloe vera gel on the skin. Aloe, like any other plant, has thousands of naturally occurring chemicals you can potentially become allergic to. I would recommend an evaluation by a dermatologist to find the right skincare combo for you that limits your exposure to plant compounds. I always tell patients – it doesn’t matter how natural or organic it is… you can still become allergic to it. I see plenty of natural and organic poison oak when I go for hikes.
Will Pregnancy After Coolsculpting Cause Fat Cells to Multiply in Treated Area and Negatively Impact
fat cells have a very limited ability to divide
Mar 19, 2013
While pregnancy can induce many changes, if you maintain good weight during pregnancy, you should have a very limited increase in fat cells/ fat volume during the process. Patients only need 400 extra calories/day during pregnancy in general. Being healthy after your coolsculpting treatments is essential for patients – whether they become pregnant or not.
To answer your question – I would wait until AFTER pregnancy to have your coolsculpting procedure. I think you will…
Am I a good candidate for Smart Lipo?
probably a good candidate
Mar 15, 2013
Based on the information, I would think you are a good Smartlipo candidate. You would still need a physical examination for sure. Have you lost a significant amount of weight? Losing over 50 lbs could leave the skin loose an sagging around the abdomen. This would limit how well your Smartlipo results might look after treatment.
Can Cool Sculpting Be Done on Fat Above AND Below Belly Button at Same Time Using the Larger Suction
Usual CoolSculpting prices
Mar 14, 2013
I routinely treat the upper and lower abdomen. However, I usually have to treat them separately. There are several ways to do that. You can treat with 2 x smaller applicators at an angle or treat just the lower abdomen with one of the large applications and then treat the upper abdomen with 1 or 2 smaller applicators. This depends on the size of the patient. Usual prices are $750 for the small applicator and $1500 for the larger applicator. Most offices…
Bruising and Swelling Prevention and Fillers?
usually stop all vitamins 2 weeks prior
Mar 12, 2013
I would recommend stopping anything that is not absolutely essential 2 weeks prior to any procedure. You can restart the next day post procedure. That should limit any bruising risk as much as possible. I’m not aware of Vitamin D causing major bruising problems, but you are right about Vitamin E and Fish Oil. I also have a few patients who eat garlic just before procedures and note bruising.
Consider pre-treatment arnica montana and post treatment bromelain…
Can I Remove Fine Frown Lines with Laser?
at age 27, I would recommend botox then fraxel
Mar 8, 2013
I think you would likely get the most benefit from first treating the area with botox and allowing the muscles to relax for a few weeks. Then you could have a Fraxel or other similar fractionated laser skin resurfacing treatment done to help reduce the wrinkles. But at your age, it is more important to not smoke and wear your sunscreen than really anything else.
Smart Lipo Triplex Inner Thighs? (Photos now attached)
200cc is normal
Feb 21, 2013
I will routinely suction 200cc – 300cc total volume from each inner thigh when performing SmartLipo on patients. I agree that you really need to communicate your expectations clearly with your provider and make sure you understand the risks/benefits/limitations of the procedure.
I Am from Indian Descent and Have Severe Dark Circles and Sunken Eye Problem. Will Restylane Help? (p
combination of filler and fractionated CO2 laser for treatment of dark circles
Feb 20, 2013
I would recommend fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm to the tear trough areas to correct physical depressions in the area. Make sure to go to an experienced injector. If they inject too superficially, it can cause bumpiness.
After the physical depression is corrected, you can correct the pigmentation issue with cover-up makeup or diffuser makeup. If you are looking for a more permanent solution, you could consider laser skin resurfacing of the area….
I’m Scheduled for Lipo This Thursday, is It Too Many Areas?
Should be fine
Feb 1, 2013
If you are nervous or have questions about your procedure, you should really be calling your doctor. I would not never allow a patient with unanswered concerns to have a procedure as you describe without making sure they are comfortable.
That being said, the areas you mention GENERALLY do not require much tumescent fluid – so they should all be able to be done on the same day without a problem. The inner and outer thighs will probably require the most…
Is Blue Light Therapy Better Than Chemical Peel for Acne Scar?
stick with the peels and add hydroquinone
Jan 15, 2013
I do not recommend blue light therapy for acne scars. I don’t think it does anything. The standard therapy for your skin type is a series of light glycolic peels and home hydroquinone topical therapy. It takes time, but you should see improvement over a 6 month period.
How Do I Loose my Belly Pouch?
Smartlipo or CoolSculpting
Jan 11, 2013
You are in terrific shape. Small areas of fat, such as in your case, can be treated with Smarlipo for around a 50% reduction (but a minimally invasive procedure) or treated with CoolSculpting. CoolSculpting is non-surgical but can improve that area by about 25% in women. Since there is no downtime with CoolSculpting, you can go right back to working out the next day instead of having to take 7-10 days off post Smartlipo.
