BOTOX Can Help, But Consider Fillers
Apr 21, 2016
For
lines around the eye such as “crow’s feet” that become more
pronounced with facial expression, BOTOX is very effective at diminishing their
appearance. In your case, however, BOTOX alone won’t be able to reduce the
wrinkles under the eyelid. As other surgeons have noted, these lines are static
(i.e., they remain even when you are not using those facial muscles). Because
of this, it would be best to consider dermal fillers or to consult with a
board-certified plastic surgeon about other…
Headache after 42 units of Botox
Headaches Are a Known Side Effect
Apr 21, 2016
It’s
not uncommon for patients to develop a headache after BOTOX treatment,
regardless of how many units were injected. A headache can persist for 3 to 4
weeks after your treatment. However, if your headache becomes progressively
worse from this point, please alert your provider about it. You should always
feeling comfortable calling your doctor. It’s also perfectly fine to take normal
over-the-counter medications to relieve your headache. Best of luck to you.
Can I have Botox injections if I do contact sports?
Generally OK, But Wait a Couple Days to Be Sure
Apr 21, 2016
Thank
you for your question. The tissue surrounding your injection sites absorbs the
botulinum toxin right away, so there’s no need to worry about it moving to
another area. However, contact sports can result in unexpected injury — and any
potential swelling to the areas that have been injected could complicate matters.
Out of an abundance of caution, I would recommend waiting a day or 2 before
getting back on the field. Good luck to you!
My face looks older and more droopy after fillers and botox treatment that was received two weeks a
Return to Your Doctor
Apr 21, 2016
Judging
from your photos, it would appear that the photo on the far left is the source
of your dissatisfaction. This could be caused by the BOTOX relaxing muscles in
the lower face to the point that it resembles sagging jowls. Though it’s not
much comfort at the moment, keep in mind that the effects of BOTOX will fade
considerably over the next 3 months. I would recommend visiting the surgeon or
injector who performed the treatment and explaining that you’re unhappy with
the result. Best of…
What is the difference between regular Botox, and Dysport?
Same Neurotoxin, Different Proteins
Apr 21, 2016
Thank
you for your question. Both BOTOX and Dysport contain botulinum toxin A as the
chemical that works to achieve the same end result. The difference lies in the
molecular configurations of the proteins attached to the molecules. While not
negligible, the differences have only a moderate effect on the dosage your
board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon will administer. That would
account for the price difference. The active ingredient that actually affects
your wrinkles is the…
Botox or Juvaderm for Marionette lines?
You May Want to Consider a Combination of Both
Apr 21, 2016
Marionette
lines are the result of 2 conflating factors: the deflation of tissue as we age
and the repeated action of our frowning muscles. Because of this, a filler such
as JUVÉDERM and a neuromodulator such as BOTOX can both be helpful. A
board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon can help guide you to a
treatment plan during a consultation. Good luck to you!
Is it safe to get Botox while breastfeeding?
Hold Off Until You’ve Progressed to Solid Foods
Apr 21, 2016
Because
there are no clinical studies proving it (and there aren’t likely to be any,
either, because it would require pregnant subjects), I cannot safely say that
BOTOX® is an acceptable treatment while you are nursing. I must recommend
waiting to receive BOTOX injections until after your baby is no longer reliant
on breast milk. Good luck to you and your baby!
After 42 units of Botox and 5 days I see no difference
Full Effects Take About 2 Weeks
Apr 21, 2016
Thank you for your question. It’s a common one. While some
patients see results after only a few days, I generally advise patients that
the full effects of BOTOX treatment take up to 2 weeks to appear. This is
because the botulinum toxin actually works by blocking the chemical
acetylcholine from being received by the nerves that activate your muscle
fibers. In order to achieve this, the toxin needs to gradually spread and
affect nerve receptors throughout the injection sites, at the cellular…

BOTOX Will Relax Those Muscles
Apr 21, 2016
Those lines are caused by strong hereditary facial muscles
under the eyes. BOTOX injections will relax the muscle and cause the lines to
fade. Remember, though, that the effects of BOTOX will last about 3 months, so
it’s important to keep your expectations for results within that frame of
reference. I would suggest speaking with a board-certified dermatologist or plastic
surgeon to develop a treatment plan for lasting results. If you want a
longer-lasting solution, you may be a better…
How soon can you have Botox and filler after a face and neck lift?
Let Your Body Tell You
Apr 21, 2016
Thank you for your question. While other surgeons who have
answered here are correct to say that it’s possible to have BOTOX in
conjunction with the procedures you have already undergone, I would suggest
paying close attention to the swelling. Wait until it has subsided completely
before considering further treatment. You may end up completely happy with the
results of your existing procedures, and having injections performed while you
are in the middle of healing may compromise your…
Does Cool Sculpting work as well to remove abdominal fat from 60 year old women as it does from wom
Consider Skin as Well as Fat
Feb 11, 2016
Generally speaking, a patient’s overall health is far
more important than his or her age when considering an aesthetic procedure.
However, while CoolSculpting is certainly used with success on patients in
their 60s, it’s important to consider the role loose, hanging skin may be
playing in the appearance of your abdomen. Because CoolSculpting is only meant
for fat reduction, it may actually make lax skin look worse, and laxity is more
common the older a person is. I recommend seeing a…
Excessive bruising after Coolsculpting. Is it normal or it will pass?
Uncommon, But Normal
Feb 11, 2016
While I certainly understand your concern, some people
are simply more prone to bruising than others, especially after CoolSculpting.
As you might have noticed, the device uses suction to grasp the treated bulge.
This can create some bruising. Results of this magnitude are uncommon, but they’re
definitely possible and should be no cause for alarm. You should see the
bruising gradually disappear over the next week or so. Please contact your
provider if your husband’s bruises get worse or are…
CoolSculpting treatments one week apart?
5 Days Is Too Soon
Feb 11, 2016
Just 5 days
between CoolSculpting treatments (provided they’re being performed on the same
area of the body) is far too little to be safe. Undergoing multiple treatments
so close together can result in tissue damage and other complications, so
you’re right to be concerned. Please feel free to share your thoughts with the
practice and locate another one led by a board-certified plastic surgeon or
dermatologist if necessary.
I have fat deposits on upper arms and buttocks. Is cool sculpting done on these areas?
Good Results on Arms & Possibly Buttocks
Feb 11, 2016
The CoolSculpting device comes equipped with
applicators of varying sizes and shapes to treat different parts of the body.
While the upper arms are popular treatment areas for CoolSculpting, the
manufacturer hasn’t yet created an applicator that works perfectly for the
buttocks. However, the potential for treatment really depends on the
significance of your concern. It’s quite possible to successfully treat the
buttocks with the applicators currently available. I recommend seeking out…
Is Coolsculpting procedure ok if you have had a hernia repair, 14 years ago?
Don’t Write Off CoolSculpting
Feb 11, 2016
While I applaud you for considering your past hernia
surgery before undergoing CoolSculpting, 14 years between procedures should be
ample time — provided those 14 years have been medically uneventful and you do
not have a surgical mesh from your hernia repair. Be sure to bring copies of
your records with you to your CoolSculpting consultation, and meet with the
supervising physician rather than a nurse or aesthetician (most doctors
delegate administration of CoolSculpting to a variety of…
