Can the fraxel laser be used to treat active acne? Are acne scars expected to increase on Accutane?
Accutane and acne scar lasers
Feb 8, 2015
Hello there,I recommend waiting at least 6 months after you finish a course of Accutane before receiving your Fraxel re:pair CO2 laser treatment. This is because Accutane affects the way your skin heals, and it takes about 6 months before it is safe for you to get your laser treatment. Also, it is important to make sure you have been clear of acne for at least 6 months before you receive your laser treatment. Sometimes Fraxel re:pair CO2 laser treatment can cause a worsening of acne...

Botox and fillers with Fraxel re:pair CO2 laser treatment
Feb 8, 2015
Botox and fillers should not be done on the same day as your Fraxel re:pair CO2 laser treatment. The intense swelling caused by the laser treatment would likely cause the both the Botox and filler to become displaced and cause unwanted side effects. For my patients, I offer Botox 1 week prior to their Fraxel re:pair CO2 laser treatment. This relaxes your muscles so that you can heal more quickly. We can also inject filler at this time. Both Botox and filler, done prior to your Fraxel re:pair...
Does Latisse become less effective once you've been using it for a while?
Latisse: It takes up to 16 weeks to achieve full results
Jan 20, 2015
Hello there,I suggest completing a full course of Latisse, which is application every night for 16 weeks. It is most likely that your lashes will achieve the full volume you had achieved before. After 16 weeks, you can decrease the frequency of applications to every other night, as long as you keep using it and don't take a break for more than a few days. This way, you can maintain your look.I hope this helps!
Would you recommend Clear and Brilliant for Dermal Melasma?
Try a test spot for Clear & Brilliant before treating your entire face.
Jan 20, 2015
Hello there,In general, I caution the use of lasers for the treatment of melasma, but you can certainly ask your doctor to try a test spot before treating your whole face. Clear & Brilliant would be my choice for those with melasma - and I would treat conservatively.Melasma has many different causes, and must be approached this way. One common cause is hormonal imbalance or use of hormone medications such as oral contraceptives or supplements. Please be sure to check in with your internist...
Can I use Obagi hydroquinone 4% in conjunction with tri-luma?
No need to double your dose of hydroquinone to treat melasma
Jan 20, 2015
Hello there,Both Triluma and Obagi Blender contain hydroquinone 4%. There is no need to double up on the dose. In fact, exposing hydroquinone to sunlight (daytime) can be detrimental. Hydroquinone decreases the melanin content in your skin, which lowers your skin's natural protection against UV damage. I recommend using hydroquinone only at night, and as recommended by your dermatologist. Otherwise, hydroquinone is an excellent treatment for melasma and can be used safely for several...
I need help for my dermal melasma! Any suggestions?
Melasma has different causes and treatments.
Jan 20, 2015
Hello there,Melasma has many different causes, and must be approached this way. One common cause is hormonal imbalance or use of hormone medications such as oral contraceptives or supplements. Please be sure to check in with your internist to make sure everything is ok. If you are using any unnecessary supplements, stop those. Sun exposure is another important trigger of melasma. Be sure to wear a mineral sunblock every day, and re-apply throughout the day if possible. The ingredients you...

Is there a way to keep the skin on my upper and lower lids from turning dark?
Tips for keeping your eyelids from darkening with Latisse
Jan 19, 2015
Hi there,Take a small soft eyeliner brush (that comes to a point). Apply a small drop of Latisse to the brush. Carefully apply the Latisse right to the actual base of your lashes, being sure to avoid touching your eyelid skin. Let Latisse dry before blinking or closing your eyes. Blinking before the Latisse dries is the reason the Latisse is touching your lower lid skin and darkening/irritating the skin. Be careful to let Latisse dry first, before blinking. This ought to help!!Sincerely,Dr. Hui
How does Latisse work and why is it only temporary?
How Latisse works
Jan 19, 2015
Hello there,Latisse works by increasing blood supply to the hairs on your eyelash line. Because of this, your hairs are able to grow faster, thicker, and longer - boosting your hair growth cycle. Once you stop the Latisse, your hairs will slowly go back to the way they were before. You will not lose your hairs. I hope this helps!
If I put Latisse on my forehead around my hair line, will it make enough smaller hair grow that my hairl
Latisse would work to grow more hair
Jan 19, 2015
Hello! Latisse is not FDA-approved for anywhere but the upper eyelashes. Theoretically, it would work to grow hairs on your forehead and darken the skin where you apply it. You can apply it nightly for a 16-week course and then a maintenance dosing of 3-4 times a week to maintain your look. Be careful to only apply it to the areas where you would like to grow more hair.
Will the scar disappear after ear lobe reduction surgery if so how long will it take?
Surgical scar treatment
Dec 15, 2014
Hello there - any time you cut into skin, a scar will result. 50% depends on the skill of the surgeon, and 50% depends on your skin and your healing ability. There are other things you can do to improve the scar at the doctor's office, like laser and resurfacing. Of course, applying sunblock is always a must, to prevent darkening of the scar.Good luck!
When can I get my ears repierced?
6 weeks for re-piercing
Dec 15, 2014
Hi there,I recommend waiting at least 6 weeks before re-piercing. I then recommend the new pierced hole to be placed to the side of the surgery site, for maximum strength and stabiliy.Good luck!Sincerely,Dr. Hui
Would a dental implant be a contraindication for the use of Vanquish, or are they referring to joint imp
Any metal in the Vanquish treatment area is a contraindication
Dec 7, 2014
Hello there,Vanquish radiofrequency waves only affect metal in the actual treatment area. As long as you do not have metal underneath the treatment areas, you will be fine. I hope this helps!Sincerely,Dr. Hui
Specific time interval required between Vanquish treatments?
Vanquish treatments
Dec 7, 2014
Hello there,Once a week is the recommended time interval, but you can certainly stretch out your appointments. Continue your treatments until you are happy with your results. In our San Francisco office, I recommend about 4-6 treatment sessions, and I also combine Vanquish with other treatments such as Z-waves (sonic waves) to help break up fat and provide a better result. Of course, diet and exercise also help!Sincerely,Dr. Hui
Which is better for fat loss--Vanquish or Coolsculpting?
Combination treatment is best for fat loss
Dec 7, 2014
Hello there! Your ideal treatment depends on the type of fat you have. Generally, CoolSculpting is best for larger, soft areas of "pinchable" fat. Vanquish is best for thinner people who do not have pinchable fat, or have hard fat. At our office, we combine multiple treatments to achieve your ideal aesthetic result - from cold (CoolSculpting) to heat (Vanquish, UltraShape), to physical pummeling (Z Waves) among several other treatment options.
