Coolsculpting is designed to target relatively small discrete areas of fat that a patient is having difficulty to lose.
It unfortunately is not a treatment for weight loss. Therefore, it is not recommended for patients that have a significant amount of excess weight. (Olga Bachilo, MD, Houston Physician)
Can CoolSculpting be done if I’m overweight?
Yes, CoolSculpting can be done if you’re morbidly obese, but its not a good idea.
You need to lose a significant amount of weight before the expense of CoolSculpting would be worthwhile since you would need many sessions which would make it cost-prohibitive.
You may be a candidate for submental (chin) CoolSculpting to see some actual benefit after just 2 sessions. (Oscar A. Aguirre, MD, FPMRS, FACOG, Denver Urogynecologist)
In our practice we try to offer CS treatment to people who are within 30lb over their ideal weight for optimal results.
You can definitely try it because it is non surgical and minimally invasive treatment but results may be suboptimal and you may need to treat same body areasseveral times before you see some results. (Armen Kirakosyan, MD, FACOG, FACS, East Aurora Urogynecologist)
Coolsculpting Candidate–Body Contouring, Diet, Exercise, Surgery
You need to lose weight first before undergoing any cosmetic procedure to get the best outcome. For best results, it is recommended to be at your ideal or stable weight before getting Coolsculpting. Coolsculpting is not a weight loss procedures, rather it is for removing problem areas that cannot be removed with weight loss and diet / exercise alone.
I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a bariatric doctor or dietitian. (Jason Emer, MD, Los Angeles Dermatologic Surgeon)
CoolSculpting is not indicated
I would not recommend CoolSculpting if your BMI is 30 or over. You will not see any difference in your body shape and will be disappointed with the result. (David Finkle, MD, Omaha Plastic Surgeon)
CoolSculpting while overweight
CS is a non invasive technology that through a series of treatments can improve body contouring.
Like all fat reduction treatments, the quality of the result depends on the underlying musculoskeletal build and the ability of the skin to retract.
Given your weight, it is hard to imagine that coolsculpting treatment would be worthwhile. It is not a weight loss device. Candidly, as difficult as it may be to hear, you don’t need CoolSculpting. For your health and well being, you need weight loss.
But don’t try to do it alone. Rather than investing in CoolSculpting, consider medically assisted weight loss, a personal trainer, or a dietician. (George Bitar, MD, Fairfax Plastic Surgeon)
CoolSculpting is not recommended if you’re 100 lbs overweight
It is recommended to be close to your ideal body weight before doing CoolSculpting treatments. CoolSculpting is great for those stubborn fat bulges that are hard to get rid of with diet and exercise. It is best to lose the weight before considering any cosmetic treatments.
Also, with a large amount of weight loss, you could also be dealing with loose skin. It would be best to see a board certified plastic surgeon to see what your options are before or after weight loss. (Jeffrey M. Hartog, DMD, MD, Orlando Plastic Surgeon)
Coolsculpting if 100 lbs overweight?
Coolsculpting is generally recommended for patients who are within 30 lbs of their ideal weight. Larger patients can use coolsculpting but it may take more sessions to see a satisfactory result. We do offer the latest large applicator (cool advantage plus) which can treat a larger areas in a single session. (John Bergeron, MD, Houston Physician)
Coolsculpting if overweight
Non-invasive body contouring is best used to treat trouble spots such as love handles or a little abdominal pooch. It is not a replacement for liposuction or for losing weight through diet and exercise. (Michelle Ellern, DO, Livingston Physician)
Coolsculpting for patient overweight by 100 lbs
Ideally and in most areas of the body that Coolsculpting (CS) is effective it is best if the patient is slightly above their ideal weight and have pockets of fat resistant to exercise and proper nutrition.
The one exception is the submental area (double chin). If there is good skin elasticity there two sessions or more of the CS could make for an improved contour. (Harold Bautista, MD, FACS, Fredericksburg Plastic Surgeon)
CS is good for people who have trouble spots and are generally around their ideal body weight. It is not intended (like lipo) to be a form of weight loss. My advice would be to get around your ideal body weight and then consider CS in trouble areas where it is hard to lose the fat. (Sameer Bashey, MD, Beverly Hills Dermatologic Surgeon)
