CoolSculpting is becoming a more common procedure in offices all around world. We always recommend that you seek a consultation with a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon who are the most qualified offices to be using CoolSculpting or any of the other fat-reducing treatments which will soon include Kybella, in which our office participated in many of the clinical trials leading to its approval.
And we have worked with Coolsculpting and with UltraShape for quite some time making the fat reduction work the best it can. The Cool Mini applicator will be used for the submental area, or the “double chin” which is seen in the neck area.
This will be its approval and whether it works on other areas will be determined by future clinical studies which need to look at the safety and the efficacy of it in different areas.
Caution needs to be considered when using these applicators over sensitive areas such as bony prominences and where important facial nerves are located.
Again, having treatments by skilled physicians is key for everyone moving forward. (Michael Gold, MD, Nashville Dermatologic Surgeon)
Cool Mini designed for submental area, not cheeks
I always recommend you have a consultation with a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon to learn all of the best options for your particular concern. The Cool Mini is designed for fat reduction on the neck, or what we call the submental area, commonly known as the double chin.
The adapter is not something that would or should be placed on the cheeks. If you have too much volume in the face, or lax skin, one of the RF skin tightening devices might be best here: the Venus Legacy, the EndyMed 3Deep, the BTL Exelis, or the ThermiSmooth all can work here.
You would need a thorough consultation and once the problem identified, the proper treatment plan can be determined. I always tell people one device does not treat everything, although at times, some want to use their one device everywhere.
Make an appointment with an expert to determine what is best for you. (Michael Gold, MD, Nashville Dermatologic Surgeon)
Is a year too long to wait for a second CoolMini?
No, not necessarily. Depending on the volume of fat under the chin, we typically recommend at least 2 treatments, generally done 8-12 weeks apart. Although it has been a year, you can still see further improvement, but probably not as much as you would have seen had you done them closer together.
Again, depending on the volume of fat, you might need to do 2 sessions at this time, to really see significant improvement. Best to be evaluated by a cosmetic specialist. (Craig Schwartz, DO, Leawood Vascular Surgeon)
CoolMini Second Treatment
CoolMini lowers the temperature of the fat cells to under 4 degrees Celsius for a predetermined period of time (just under 45 minutes). This prolonged exposure to the cold results in the death and natural absorption of the treated fat cells.
Under normal circumstances, adults do not have the ability to create new fat cells, so your CoolSculpting results will be permanent. That is not to say the fullness under your chin may not return since the remaining fat cells in that area can increase in size with weight gain.
Because the fat cell destruction is permanent, a second treatment 1 year later will be able to add to the results of your first treatment. (Scott Gerrish, DO, Vienna Physician)
While there are certain candidates for the cool many cool sculpting under the chin. The majority of patients who are looking for results off for minimally invasive treatments. The options here are liposuction and even more impressive results from Percision TX smart Lipo which combines laser liposuction This involves laser heat energy melting the fat and then tightening the skin with simultaneous removal of fat deposits from under the chin.
Therefore if you want results and you haven’t seen anything for upwards of the year perhaps you’re a better candidate for a minimally invasive procedure. (R. Brannon Claytor, MD, FACS, Bryn Mawr Plastic Surgeon)
One of the best things about CoolSculpting is that the results are permanent. So a second treatment would still be beneficial, because you’ve already reduced the fat in the area by 20-30%. (Janet Allenby, DO, Delray Beach Dermatologist)
It is never too late to have a second treatment. As long as you’re still an ideal candidate, you will see 20%-25% more reduction in the area. Although it may have been more aggressive to do a second treatment 12 weeks post the first, it is not a waste to start your second treatment now. (Paul Flashner, MD, Boston Physician)
CoolMini for excess fat around jawline
t is possible that more than one applicator be used in one session but is not the most common way of approaching the double chin.
The studies were based on one applicator in the centre of the double chin area with a second treatment repeated after about a month. As this applicator is new, the more conservative approach considering your age and what you have described is possibly the one applicator in the centre to be repeated a second time.
The most important thing is that you look for a credible clinic with a lot of experience. (Manish Khanna, MD, FRCP(C), Montreal Dermatologic Surgeon)
Each CoolSculpt hand piece is a specific size and shape, while each patient comes in with their unique fat distribution and amount. As this Coolsculpting on the body where there may be areas of overlap, the same goes for the Mini.
You might also require 2 or more treatments for the best result depending on the amount of fat you have as well. That too would be safe and legitimate. The Mini is a great addition to out Coolsculpting options. (Stacey Folk, MD, Denver Plastic Surgeon)
Placement of all CoolSculpting applicators depends on the distribution of fat. It is certainly reasonable and quite common to have more than one session in one office visit. Traditionally, the cool mini applicator and placed centrally on the neck area, but treatments are customized for each patient. (Carmen Kavali, MD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
The best way is to have an examination by a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Not everyone is a candidate for cool mini. Your double chin must actually fit into the applicator. (Sameer Bashey, MD, Beverly Hills Dermatologic Surgeon)
Will “Cool Mini” be used off label for lower jaw, cheek and jowl area?
It is unlikely the CoolSculpting submentum treatment will be used for the cheek area. You may want to look into other treatment options. Perhaps consider a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon who is currently using CoolSculpting and can provide all considerable avenues. (Martin Jugenburg, MD, Toronto Plastic Surgeon)
You want to go to a plastic surgeon who can tell you what is your best option: facelift, fillers, CS, Kybella, or liposuction.
They are all great tools with regard to treating this area but only a board certified plastic surgeon can offer all of the options and let you know what will work best for you. (Sheila S. Nazarian, MD, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)
Coolsculpting for off label areas including face, jawline, chin
I wouldn’t suggest treating these areas, as there is potential to cause damage to nerves/vessles and get uneven results. Kybella is FDA approved for the submental (chin) area and will be out in the near future to certain providers (including me) who are trained and understand neck anatomy.
Honestly, liposuction/contouring of this area gives amazing results wiht only a few days downtime. That is the best treatment combined with botox and thermage/ultherapy/venus legacy to get the best jawline/neck if you are a good candidate.
Only go to an expert to treat this area. (Jason Emer, MD, Los Angeles Dermatologic Surgeon)
